Stocker rims I wouldnt go past a 235/60-15 on it.

Annymore and it starts looking stupid and its of no benefit if its rolling over on itself in a corner

My 91 Formula had 245's on a 16 inch wheel, I went to the 15 inch with 245/60/15's... they look good & don't stick out too much... using the spacef that came with the rear wheels (not sure if need them, doesn't rub anywhere.

I went with a 225/60 size tire with my 15s. For the most part, they will work like completely stock (meaning 215/65) tires since the sidewall is slightly smaller, which means no adjustments are necessary for the speedometer. These particular tires, Yokohama AVS dB S2, are good for the price, if that is a particular concern to you. When I first bought them, they handled corners pretty well and the traction was great. Now, even only a short time on the car, they are showing signs of wear... especially in wet conditions, which they are particularly not-so-great in those kinds of situations. The car will easily lose traction in turns if I goose the throttle a little too much, but that usually only happens if the ground is still wet from rainfall. Still, they are hard to beat for the price (about $70/tire).

i can get them cheap since where i work i can get a discount. the car will be daily driven but i will occasionaly take to the track and saturday night cruise. i dont want them too big like a said but not to the point to where they still look realy dinky in the wheel wells.

What have you come up with so far?

All we can do is give you suggestions... then you have to put some effort into researching what will work best for you.

Hope that helps.

Car: 82 Z28
Engine: Al LT1 headed LG4 305
Transmission: TH350
Axle/Gears: 3.73 posi with spacer
Stock 215/65-15=26.1" diameter
235/60-15 = 26.1" diameter

235/60-15 is the common "upgrade" size for stock 15" wheels.

can anyone here comment on the difference in handling/overall drivability when you move from a 215/65/15 to a 235/60/15?

is it noticeable? or, is it mostly a cosmetic upgrade?

screaming86, if you go with 235s, I'd like to get your feedback on the diff. i'm thinking of making the same change.

So many things go into play...
a wider tire will get better traction when using power...
Different sidewals heights proviede harder or softer cornering... different compounds provide softer / more traction / more wear as opposed to harder compounds / less traction / less wear, etc...

My car has a TPI engine and it's not a daily driver.. I opted for wider / softer for more traction... I use to be able to chirp it going into third with my old hard tires.. hasn't happened yet with the new softer ones...

I ran a 265/50/15 on the back of my first camaro for about 3 years.Actually i still have the tires mounted..I store my Z28 on those rims now.It rolled along pretty smooth.I could never quite get the pressure right though so the wear pattern was always a little off.

It was a weird experiance the first time i drove in the rain with tires that big though.

BigBiscuit i will let you know if i go with them and how they ride bt the car still needs struts, shocks, and springs so it will be a soft ride i assume since as it is now when i stomp on it and let off quick feels like the front end is comin off the ground and then nose diving. i will also add my wonderbar when i repalce those. my friend had a 83 crosfire maro and i think he had 235/60/15 but he sold it about a year ago and i dont rem how the ride was but the car had so many squeaks and rattles i was afraid to ride in it. the tire i have now is a softer compound and i think rated at 40,000 miles but they didnt last no where near that long and even with the 2.73 rear it was able to chirp 2nd on those with the old 217,xxx stock lg4
D's89IROCZ those dont look too bad if it would let me post a pic i would put up a pic of those 255's i got but says al my files are too large and i know some of these pictures ive posted before.
