Stock sway bars vs. Aftermarket?
Ive got a 82Z28 and was just wondering about the stock sway bars on it, I mean are they any kind of good compared to say an aftermarket brand like Spohn or are we just pretty much talking a weight difference here?

I'd just steal some bars off a WS-6 or an IROC. Most after market bars are something like 36mm hollow and 22/24mm solid rear, which I think is the same as those cars. Front bars has to be from a 3rdgen, rear bar can be from either 3rd or 4th gen.

That pretty much covers it
If you can find a 36mm front bar grab it and you will have all that you need up front. In back you want a 24mm in most cases (stock springs), but the 22 is also good. One more thing

I have an '89 RS, stock sway bar front-30mm, rear-19mm.
I found an '86 IROC and took the 34mm front sway bar and the 24mm rear sway bar.
DRAMATIC IMPROVEMENT!!
Also intalled a spohn HUGE wonderbar, and 3 point strut tower brace from Edelbrock. Handles great!

Hi All,
I went though this upgrade last year at this time. I went with
sponser Top-DownSoutions.com and here is what I got.
23mm rear sway bar
34mm front sway bar
Front sway bar bushing
Rear Sway bar bushing kit
Four of these
End links
And these because my car did not come with a rear sway bar
Chassie Link Mounts for rear sway bar
This setup in tandom with my BF Goodridge 245/50vr16 TA tire are a great handling package. The car is just fun to drive especially in the mountains. Those curves got strighter and faster. Were talking about G's here.
I also have the TDS wonder bar. BMR Struct tower brace, Spohn sub frame connectors, Spohn lower control arms, Spohn track bar and Ebach Pro Springs. So before you add the big sway-bars the chassie should be reinforce. Doing one with out doing the other is a big mistake.

anybody use the TDS sway bars? I was debating between those and just pulling some off of an 86IROC like mentioned above

IMO, the 36/24 combo, under most circumstances, is more than adequate. They can be found on some 89-92 Camaros and some 86-92 Firebirds. Yank'em, paint'em (or powdercoat'em) and you're good to go at a very reason price, ie, cheap. I'd throw on some 1LE poly end links (10221779) and some greaseable poly bushings (TDS or Spohn)--or you could use the higher durometer GM rubber bushings, 14094389.

4RCEPWRD, first I'd like to say glad to see someone from my area, thats a first on here
Secondly. I belive the swaybars on the early z's are smaller diameter then the later models. I'd suggest measureing what you have, largest stock up front is 36mm, largest stock rear is 24mm.
If your on a budget and dont have these, I'd hunt around and find some.
If you have no budget, and like taking these no-sense roads around here at max speed, I'd suggest some aftermarkets. Along with that id do some of the other items listed in this thread.

cool, another.
Was iced in here all weekend.
Technical post, I found upgrading the suspension to grip on dry payvment decreased the grip on poor payvment.
