If you are running 16" x 8" rims, 255 will fit with just alittle rubbing at full steering lock on the inside fender wells. A big hammer will fix that. I run 275/45-16" on 16" x9.5" rims with no problem.

I just got some for my car, 91RS, that are 275/50/17 rear and 275/40/17 front on SLP ZR1 style rims (17x8). The ones on the back fit (I had to roll in the lip on the inside of the rear wheelwell) and the front ones fit (but rub at full crank when suspension is compressed). Its looks pretty wicked. I say to go with the 255s (if its within ur budget) cuz the wider the tire the better it looks...

Thirdgens that orginally came with the 245/50r16 tires used a different steering box that limited the lock to lock turns and the maximum steering angles. So if your thirdgen did not come with these type of tires, then you will have rubbing on the inner frame rail whenever you turn the wheel all of the way to the stopsl.

My 91 RS had the stock 235/55R16 on it and they rubbed when fully turned. I put the 245/50R16 on and they don't ever rub.

dwillis: I think you will be happy with them. I have the exact tires on my car(except mine are 245's). Compared to the stock Eagle's that were on there, I noticed a difference, especially in the rain.
My buddy has an 87 Grand National that runs low 11's and he swears by them. Says they hook great and wear awesome too.

These two sizes were introduced by Goodear in 1984 for the Camaro/Firebird and Corvette. They were called "Gatorbacks" and were original equipment (OEM) tires. These were the largest size tire for that time on US production cars.
245/50/VR16 on the Camaro/Firebird only on certain models.
255/50/VR16 on Corvette
Later other tire companies also introduced these sizes for the replacement market.
