frame stiffening?

other then the typical sub frame connectors and the typical strut tower brace what else can be done to stiffen the frame on a car?
oh yeah forget about the roll cage also. we all know that does it but anything else?

Wonder bar, KB lower chassis support, and then after that you're talking custom stuff. Like for example bars welded between the firewall and strut towers, then connecting to the front support, even possibly seam welding, etc, etc.

custom SFC's work very nice... although they are a little bit of a pain to do since it is one large piece instead of two "straight" bars. pretty much two sfc's that are connected to each other at both ends, and then it has an "X" in it as well in between then.... amkes the center of the car stiff.. really stiff.

But then how would you drop the transmission if it blows up?

crazy, if you look at the say 96'ish corvettes, they have a x brace under the car. It has a bolted in removable center so that you can drop the driveshaft.

As for tranny, on the vette its not even close. I think on the camaro it would still clear.

I would be more worried about the torque arm.

i have seen a few of those x braces that you can remove he "X" out of them if you have to drop any major components.. basically take the huge bolts out of it. They use them alot on the 2002 Shelby GT 500 mustangs. (nothing like a supercharged 427 sbc with a 5 spd manual tranny to put down some power lol) Basically if you have seen gone in 60 seconds.. that Shelby Mustang in that movie was made at the time of the moive by taking a fastback. or mach 1 (can't remember exactly) cutting it up, restoring it to make it look like the original Shelby gt 500's, and you can actually say they are new cars, since Ford released new win #'s for the cars... and they are registered

Well bolt in I can understand, but I was thinking about stuff thats perm welded. I have to admit I've never seen an X brace for a 3rd gen. I would imagine it would make it alot harder to work on the drivetrain unless you can remove it. But then it seems it wouldn't be supported very well being bolt in and all. I guess whatever works, works.

oh.. yea the center is bolt in using 4 bolts per 4 connevction points. the outside of it (where the normal subframes go) are still welded in.. sorta like a little of both.. you can just remove the center part.. not the whole thing... I am sure if a person put thier mind to it, they could fab up something that is full weld in that goes up into the well and over the stuff... would take some thought to do though. then you could weld it all together and still be able to get everything
