Tighten Turn Radius?

Is it possible to tighten the turn radius on a 1991 Camaro? I noticed that my friends 240 SX and my other friends Neon both turn alot tigher than my car. I know it probably has something to do with the long nose on F-bodies, but I was just curious if there was a mod to the front suspension that would help. Thanks in advance.

240 SX and a Neon....... That's not even comparable.......

It's like swinging a yardstick in a circle and swinging a 12 inch ruler in a circle, then wondering why the ruler has such a smaller circle than the yardstick...

I don't think there's anyway to really give it any more of a tighter radius besides removing the steering stops, and I bet something would bind or end up breaking/wearing unevenly after a while if you were pushing it past where the stops used to be very often.

Personally, I was always impressed with the turning radius of these cars compared to the length.

Wanna compare to my 5th avenue These cars turn pretty tight for a "big" car. Neons, 240s.. the 240 is a slightly close comparo (RWD) but Nissan has always been known for "performance" cars.

Anyways, to give and answer to you question which is what you wanted...

The only way to increase the turning radius is by using narrower tires that will not rub a full lock and then trim down the steering stop just a tad at a time checking the turning radius increase until the narrower tire comes close again to hitting either the swaybar or the rear inner wheelwell.

That is basically your only option as to HOW to do it, now the real question is if you WANT to do that. Most likely not. You'll just have to learn to live with it the way it is.

First, the neon is not a fair comparison for most cars… they ended up with a super tight turning radius on that car ans used to even advertise it.

Second, you’ll have to go narrower with the tires, and if you use stock 15” wheels (which are narrower) you’ll have to space them out about an inch or more, and then you can change the stops in the steering box to get more travel with it. I doubt that no matter what you do you’ll hit the spindle stops on the control arms, but if you do you’ll probably have to trim them also.

Why would you want to do it? Just goose the throttle and unless you’ve go the wimpiest of v6’s you should be able to swing the back end around where the nose sits, effectively a much tighter turn radius then the cars that you were talking about.

Thanks guys. I kinda figured the Neon was a unfair comparison. I don't want to do anything like narrower tires, shaving, trimming, etc. I thought there might be an adjustment to be made. I like my nice, fat, wide, 16 inch tires. More grip.
I can get a pretty tight turn out of it. Pulled out of a doughnut an into a parking place from ninety degrees before. Heheheh. Back lot at the theater in Johnson City. Saw an older guy in a Lexus try the same thing once.
