Is it common or heard of that the rear springs pop out? or did the guy I bought my car from think he was a Duke from Hazard County?
My passenger rear spring is not seated, but on the axle tube and held by the shock.

The only way they could come out is if you broke a shock and the axle seperated far enough away from the frame. If you have cut springs, they may come out even with the shock attached. I've seen some cars put up an a hoist and when the axle drops down the springs fell out.

Well maybe when the guy got the new tranny a last Christmas (I meant holiday), the spring fell out because worn shocks or the like.

When I replaced my rear springs, I didn't need to touch my tools. I just let the rear axle hang down, and I was able to pull the springs out quite easily without unbolting anything.
I could see how the spring could possibly come out on its own, even if nothing was broken / loose - but only if you got the rear end off the ground somehow. Your "Dukes of Hazzard" theory may not be too far off...

I put some new shocks on and I also hose clamped the springs
so if I decide to jump it, they wont fall out again

Low rate springs (IE: handling) come out quite easily since they're shorter than "standard" rate springs .
