upgrading suspension on 200k mile car

Car: 1999 Firebird Formula
Engine: LS1
Transmission: Stalled 4l60e
Axle/Gears: 3.23
upgrading suspension on 200k mile car

I plan on putting aftermarket ROH rts on my car and shortly following with lowering springs struts and shocks. After that I am planning on putting a wonderbar and sub frame connectors on. I was told that adding the last 2 parts would stress my chassis which has 200,028 on it. Is this true and what would the worst case scenario be.

A wonderbar is designed to connect the rails together preventing the general cracking that's seen. The factory eventually put these on some of their camaros, but our formulas did not. You should feel tighter handling, at least I did.

You might notice one of the bolts will not line up. To fix this grind the hole a little bit to enlarge it. I had to do it on my BMR wonderbar.

The SFCs are made to support the unibody. Basically they fill the the rocker rail area where there is no support.

As long as you properly install them under chassis load per to instructions you should be making the overall chassis stronger. Depending on how much the car has sagged overtime you might notice some new rattles.

I installed mine around 70k to 80k without any problems.

If the car has that many miles on I would look into new energy suspension mounts while I was at it if it was still sporting OEM mounts on the sway bars... etc.

My car has about 225,000 miles on it. In the last 3 years I have installed sub frame connectors and a TDS wonderbar and have experienced no problems. The ride felt a bit tighter and some rattles disappeared as well.

The very first thing you SHOULD do manditory if putting on wider rims and tires (16x8's or larger) is install a wonderbar for safety reasons. It will not improve the response of the steering unless the frame is very fatigued and on the urge of cracking behind the steering box. These cars are prone to this and GM new this from day one- Hence why GM installed a wonderbar factory on the IROC's with the 16x8 rims. It will prevent the frame from cracking in the future. Without one, it will crack with widered grippy tires.

It is a well documented fact in racing history that the more rigid a frame is, the more stable the suspension geometry remains with tire contact patches to the ground. SFC's are a good starting point to add to a unibody car before adding other handling mods. The chassis is the foundation and a strong one will make any other handling mods work more percisely.

this is what i posted on another thread:
i think you are forgetting something else,springs and shocks are a huge factor in your cornering but dont forget your sway bars,they are soo huge.not to mention the front bushings,i, running jamex springs,kyb shocks/struts,hotchkis stb,hotchkis lca and the adjustable panhard bar.i just got my new swaybars and thr new poly bushing kit up from and man,what a differance.....look into it....you will wish u did sooner.

my car has 210,000 miles and it still kicks ***
