How to send RIMS to someone...
I will be selling my old Stock 1992 Z28 16" rims. They weigh in at 23lbs each.
I am in Vancouver, BC. Canada. I am wondering what type of delivery will it require me to take to have all 4 mailed out to someone in the US? (UPS/FEDEX?)
Which would be cheaper? Any idea the cost? Does it require insurance?
Do they supply the packaging box and how large a box do they need to use?
www.ups.com and www.fedex.com have online shipping calcuators. I would use that to get an IDEA of the shipping & handling cost but have no idea what size of a box would be needed for 16X8 rims (23lbs) ea. And what type of delivery is needed..
Thanks very much.

You need 4 boxes with inside dimensions of about 18x18x9. Then maybe some extra cardboard to wrap around them and to set on top of and under them, to reinforce the box a bit so it doesn't crush around the wheels so easy.
UPS or FedEx ground would be easiest.
Neither of those companies will supply a box of the size you need. However, any place that sells moving or packing supplies should be able to hook you up. U-Haul, PakMail, etc.
Don't outsmart yourself. This is really pretty easy.

Probably $3-4 US each. What's that, about $25 Ca apiece?
You could also put 2 of them in a 18 cubed box, with a couple of pieces of cardboard between them. That would be kind of awkward to carry around though. They'd be alot easier to ship one at a time, like wheel mfrs do. In fact that's somewhere you could look to scare up some boxes; a tire store.
Come on guy, this isn't rocket science, it's just putting stuff in a box. 16" x 8" wheels are about 17" across and 8½" thick, so that's the size box you need. Not really interesting at all actually, quite dull in fact.
PakMail is a chain of stores we have here, that will {drum roll please} pack and mail stuff for you. I've seen places like that all over the world, not just in the US, even in some seriously 3rd world places; no doubt you have something equivalent there.

Obviously you can get 2 in that size of a box. I said interesting, because of the fact that you HAVE to supply the packaging.. Which simply means more work for me.

You need boxes that will hold rims? Go to a grocery store, and go through their recycle bin, wide variety of sizes and you don't have to pay $5 for each box.

last time i did it the ghetto way. grabed two pieces of carboard (one on each side) and a big roll of tape and went to town. i wouldnt do it again like that but the guy who i sold them too didnt want to pay for the cost of the materials to ship it and i wasnt going to eat the price either so thats it. BTW he got the rims (and tires) with no damage done to them. also was shipped DHL

to ship rims i put one box into another, to ship tires i wrap tape around ten inch of the tire and slap a ups sticker on them , usually pretty simple
