18" wheels on the rear?
Dear All:
I recently installed 17x 8.5 C-5's front and rear using 2" spacers. tires are 245/45/17. Call me crazy but i'm starting to obsess over getting 18x9.5 C-5's for the rear so i can go real wide back there.
is this a good idea? would the correct tires be 275/40/18?

I've got a set of the "wide-spoke" C5 wheels I'm going to be putting on my car in a few weeks when it gets a bit warmer outside. I don't think the Eagle F1 GS EMT tires would like the cold temps (below freezing ).
245/45R17 on 17x8.5" fronts
275/40R18 on 18x9.5" rears
My speedometer will be off by 3-4% or so, but its already like that and I'm used to it (because my winter tires are a tad taller than stock, roughly same height as the 275/40R18). Not like it really matters anyways because I'm going to buy a Dakota Digital SGI-5 box when I do my 2.73-->3.42 gear swap. I figure it'll give me a few more options than figuring out the speedo gears and changing those. Whenever I swap to a T-56, I'll already have the box.
I'm going to use 2" spacers up front (have them on there for my winter salad shooters already) and my 4th gen rear in the back eliminates the need for rear spacers.
When I have to buy new tires, I'll probably buy 245/45R17 or 245/40R17 for the front and 275/35R18 for the back, but I'm not sure yet. The tires I have should last me this summer, and I'll buy new tires next summer.

hey i saw this thread is just up my alley what i was going to ask...dont mean to hi-jack it at all. i have a set of 98 vette "wagon wheels" 17 front and 18 rear. i really would love to see go on my 86 iroc. i have heard that a 2 inch spacer is needed, but im very weary about using a 2 inch spacer on the rear tires since this should be a 11 second car. i run nitto et streets now and will probly go w/ them on the 18's as well. does anyone make spacers that will stand to the power im putting to these. and swapping the rear is out for me b/c i have a dana im keeping way to much money invested in it to change over.

Just curious, which Dana are you using, and how much did you pay for it? I love Dana
www.skulte.com They make great adapters from what I hear. 2" all around should work well for ya.

im worried about adapters breaking if the tires hook is why im wondering if anyone putting down good power has run adapters and had any problems with them snaping?

i think they run small , or narrow , because i had a 245 50 16 on the ground next to a 245 40 18 and they were both on rims and the 245 50 16 cooper zeons look wider than these. SO maybe that are narrow , They look wider in person too . But i went with that style cause of the looks , i didnt want the f1s because they are narrow.
