brakes-proportioning valve

I'm not sure about this but I think its the porportioning valve. I only have front brakes and when my brother had this car he said something about the proportioning valve being messed up and thats why the back brakes wouldn't work. Does this sound like the problem?

Sorry for the lack of info about it...I don't really know much about brakes.

Sounds like you have Saginaw (cast iron calipers) rear brakes that haven't had the recall kit put in them; and your PV hasn't been modded. The PV probably isn't defective except in its design. They rarely go bad except for leaking.
