There is more to handeling than skid pad numbers alone. You want to be concerned with transistion and roll. Some stock 3rd gens have been tested at .84g and 1LE cars even higher. Does that mean your car will do that; only if age hasn't robbed your suspension components of thier former glory. A 3rd gen will always outperform a 4th gen when equipt properly. They are lighter and a bit shorter.

Fourth Gen has a wider track width, better front geometry (negative camber curve), rack and pinion steering, larger brakes, better spring rates, and larger wheels and tires 17's. Other than that i don't think the fouthgen could possibly beat a thirdgen. :lala:

That may be,

but they also have worse weight distrobution, softer springs, and smaller sway bars.

imagine how the underpowered generationn keeps beating the newer more powerfull better handling cars around auto-x courses.

Dewey,

I am trying to compare stock to stock. Not heavily modified. Anyways the thirdgen aftermarket is huge compared to the fouth gen. Thirdgens have had 22 years of development. Fourthgens have had 9 years to develop parts. Not to mention that most peple who autocross cant afford to trick out a 98 Z28. But a 91 Camaro is cheap. Dollar for dollar (stock) the fouthgen is better. Dollar for dollar (aftermarket) the thirdgen rules. Just give it time and fourth gens will kill thirdgens in autocross.

Car: 88 Camaro IROC-Z
Engine: SBC 385

My 88 IROC w/ stock suspension DESTROYS my buddies 2000 z28 with stock suspension in handling....but my is bumpier than hell where his rides like a third-gen RS. I can turn my where side-to-side real fast and my car zig-zags side-to-side; his just rolls.

Don't have any numbers for your though...just rambling!

Besides the front suspension differences the two cars share the same suspension. There is much development needed.

Car: 84 Z..err 92 now
Engine: 402 LS1 Procharged-14 psi-629 hp!
Transmission: T56
For all out handling the third-gen will smoke a fourth. Went to a SSCA race in Topeka and all the fourth gen got there azz-handed to them by everything there. The thirdgen where easily a half second to 3/4 second faster per lap despite being less horspower. The 4th gen is to heavy, too high Cg and roll centers are too low. When GM designed the 4th it wanted better ride then handling compared to the 3rd gen. They had many complaints about the ride being too stiff for the "average" Camaro driver. But if your looking for best handling then a no suspension movement Iroc is what you want. CHP did a article and they got some excellent numbers out of a 91 with a few mods and sticky tires. Its skid pad numbers where close to 1G and the salom speed was better then a Porshe or most Ferraris.
