I had 295/50/R15's on 15x7 firebird rims a few years back. I put 1/8" or 1/4" spacers in and pounded the inner wheel well in as much as I could. They still rubbed on the inside on real hard turns.

i just posted about this like 5 min ago in another topic. DO NOT put a 295 on a stock 15. there is way too much sidewall flex and will dismount the tires around cornors. on a stocker wheel, dont go over 255. ive been in the tires/suspension/chassy business for 5 years and have seen a lot of bad things happen when people do things like this...

i've had a set of 245/60/r15 goodyears on the stock 15x7 wheels.

i wouldn't go any bigger than a 245. that's just my personal preference, though.

Wow... Putting 295's on a 7" wide wheel is brave... No more than 245 (235 is probably a better size)...

That wasn't wheel rub....that was the sound of your tires hitting the fender well as they popped off the rim 245 is about the max on a 7" wheel...that's still more than 2.5" inches wider than the rim.

I ran those tires in back for years. No rubbing problems at all. They did not seem to handle any differently than the 235/60r15 front and rear combo I had before. If I had the 15x7's still I put them on again. They added a very minimal amount of rake, but not "redneckish". Speedo was only off a few percent. Not a big factor until you're going well over the speed limit.

I'd also like to state that you shouldn't go larger than that. I've seen several other 3rd gens with 275/60r15 and one with 295/50r15 on the rear. It looked horrible! The 295's were all cut up from hitting the rolled quarter panel. Very unsafe. You could see the tire moving around when he cornered at even slow speeds! The tire just kind of rolled over...

hey keep acting smart, i dont care. you playing with your own life doing stupid things like that. i suppose you use 16 inch tires on 16.5 inch wheels too? thats the same thing as mounting a 295 on a 15x7...

265/50R15 on a 15x8 rim with 4.5 inch backspacing works well on the rear.
