No matter what I do, I can't seem to achieve a firm brake pedal on my Camaro. I had the wrong proportioning (combination) valve, so I figured that I might as well replace the other hydraulic parts. I have a new master cylinder, proportioning valve, and rebuilt rear calipers, using GM's recall rebuild kit. I also use a line-lock.

I've bled the brakes numerous times, and I'm convinced that there cannot be any air left in the lines after the prop valve. I bench-bled the master cylinder, and bled it again once it was on the car. Before I did it the second time, the brake warning light would illuminate when the pedal was pressed to the floor... but it doesn't do that, now. I guess that means that I made some progress.

I read something about pressing in the little pin on the front of the prop valve before bleeding, but I wasn't sure if it was necessary. I've never heard of that.

The only parts left that I haven't touched are the front calipers. Is it possible that they're causing an excessively-soft pedal? What else have I missed?

The stock rubber lines. Being 13 years old, they can start to balloon in certain places. This is even more likely if your car is high mileage.

I'd order a stainless steel Earl's kit if I were you.
