homemade strut tower brace

ok, basically we're building a strut tower brace and my question is where exactly do you mount the brackets? anyone have any good pics on where they do this at. my friend was asking also, why can't you unbolt the top of the struts, slide on the bracket to those guides and bolt it down? anyone got a response for him??? thanks

here is the one i made, it mounts just in front of the strut thingys. All ya gotta do is drill some holes and bolt her down.

soemoen on here made a 10pt one, this thread just reminded me. Ive seen them either mount to the strut plates, and Ive seen them bolted to the inner fender. I think mounting them to the strut plates could move the geometery of the suspension? Could be wrong.

you cant bolt it directly to the strut plate since they have to move when you get a alignment.

what 99% of the people do is bolt them to the thick upper sheetmetal part that the strut plate sandwiches.

thanks for the help. i did see that 10 point on here, that thing looked wicked, kind of over kill but still crazy lookin. deepstage how much improvement did you notice with yours. i like it, it looks simple and clean. i was thinking of doing something basic but maybe doing a 3 pt like the edelbrocks. thanks again for the responses, hopefully ill get it done and have some pics up for ya soon!

Difference was night and day, car wanted to turn corners, and felt more stable, I had it off once, and it felt like it felt like the front end was rubber. I will never drive and f-bod without one again.

you guys got the best inspiration for fabricating these things, i wouldn't mind paying $50 for the wonderbar, but $200 for subframe, and $150 for strut, getting a bit overboard, so why not just make them all!

im a strong believer in this!

Ive made my own Strut bar, Sub frame connectors, wonderbar, hell even reinforced the stock lower control arms and panhard bar in the rear.

is there a vast difference between 2point, 3point and a 5point fabrication for the strut tower brace (tower to tower, both towers to fire wall center, then either center of bar or from towers again to the front core support 2 bars)

with subframe connectors, do you only need the long bars going down the sides, or would it help to reinforce them on the sides more with something like this down the driver/pass sides? all welded of course...

and also would it help to cross them at some point, was planing to find 1 with t-tops, wondering if this type of application would help?

the wonderbar is relatively simple, and i could even spiff that up if i was having a good day

i was also considering buying new lca's from sophan, and evenutally all new suspension/steering components because i'd imagine they've never been replaced, is it just as good to reinforce them with extra metal wrap? i believe thats what u did.

EDIT: lines didn't "line" up...
