Hey fellas, just thought I'd post this for general knowledge. A lot of guys are wondering which e-brake cable to get so that they don't have any problems hooking them up. The original part number for the '89-up rear disc and "1LE" e-brake cable WAS 10083575 but it's been discontinued.
The CORRECT part number you'll need is 10164125. Same cable fits either 9 or 10 bolt rears. A dealer will charge you $27.77 each like I just paid....(read: Idiot). Dal has them for $17 each and GMPD has them for $15 each, but GMPD will charge you more for S/H. Go thru Dal and he'll treat you right.

I never thought about going to AZ for them, figured they were a dealer item. Not discontinued, just a different part number than I used a while back.
James, Ive seen the guides you are talking about but these specific cables don't come with them, but they DO have the "extra" piece of clear rubber over them to protect them where they lay over the axle like you mentioned. Like FRK said, I guess you can pull a set of guides off an LT1 car.
Ed
Do these cables require a guide (the type that bolts to each side of the diff case and is discontinued from GM) or do they incorporate a heavy molded rubber piece that protects the cable from the axel?

Spd,
Did the LT1 guides look like the ones in the following thread?:

The cables in the pic appear to have the 'insulation' you spoke of, Ed.

Just checked in on this post, sorry for the delay James. The cables I simply asked for parking brake cables for a 1990 Trans Am with 4 wheel disc brakes as they all came with the PBR calipers by then. The length was 58-59". I can't recall the part number though but they were manufactured by Tru-Torque.

Ed, FYI, the guides in question are still available from GM (thanks for the heads-up, Spd). I order a pair today (apparently LH/RH). If you're interested, I'll post the part #'s when they come in.
Thanks!! You too, Mike..

The e-brake cable guides are in. I didn't think they were the correct ones (so I didn't bring them home), but after checking AndyZ's CD, I see that they are identical in all respects to the ones he uses. I'll pick them up Monday from my GM dealership and post the part numbers at that time.

Zepher, the LS1s use a totally different cable, these are only for the '89-92 third gen discs and the '93-97 LT1 style, sorry.

The e-brake guides as seen in AndyZ's 1LE CD are GM part #s 10285819 (RH) and 10285818 (LH). My cost was $2.69 per. I don't know if the GM stock is running low or not, but these took a couple of weeks or so to come in, and apparently they came from different warehouses.
