most reputable tire places wouldn't install a 315/35/17 on a 17x9, you need atleast 10" rim, the sidewall of that tire is too small for a 9"

get 17x10, or better yet 17x11" wheels for that tire.

and yes, with a little massaging of the rear fender well, it will fit w/o rubbing.

up front 275/40/17 is the max w/o spacers or rubbing.

that is with a 17" rim.

They will fit, yes. Is is safe? No, probably not. Haven't seen a 315 tire that a manufacturer has approved a rim width of 9", not even 9.5". They test these tires on these approved rim widths, and supply them to the DOT, part of approval (safety). I wouldn't ever try to squeeze a tire on a skinny rim that the tire wasn't approved for. I'd hate to pop a tire bead going around a resonable corner and mess up my rim/tire combo, maybe more, just cuz i wanted a fat tire out back.

I've had 315 nittos on my ws6 for over 2 years now. on the stock 17x9's. maybe iwas lucky. ?? reasons whyi want to go 17x9's again with 315's is thati've heard that 17x9.5's wont fit and 17x10 and 11 deffinately wont fit. ROH says that ucan use up to 315mm tires on their ZS 17x9.5" rims. if 9.5's or 10" rims will fit under the wells, i'll go that route. by the way, what kind of messaging to the wells are yout talking about?

i'd feel a lot better with 315s on a 9.5" wheel, if you think about it it is about 13 mm wider, making a fairly large difference. i see 9.5s on the back of 3rd gens all the time, although not with 315s. But i haven't seen a 315 tire approved to fit on smaller than a 10" wheel though.

on my 94 Formula i had SS wheels, 17x9.5 front and 17x11 in the rear, i used to swap tires around on the wheels, based on what tires i could get used (i had a tire machine and balancer). Tried a lot of sizes on both, 315s looked like they would almost fall off of the 9.5s, so i never put it on the car like that. And i test fit the 17x11s on my 85TA, i could tell they would fit, if the backspacing is correct, just by rolling the fender lip and a little hammer work on the inner fenders/bumpstop. I don't want to run adapters, so i'm gonna have custom billet 17x11s made to fit. I won't have to mini tub or anything.

IIRC, the guy (Brian Smith ... goes by "maxgforce" here I think) who I bought my car from autocrossed with 17X11s and 315 Kumhos. But the lower parts of the front fenders had to be hacked a bit (and are still hacked ). No problems with them in the rear. Click here to see pic of car then.

Also keep in mind that one tire company's 275 (or 315 or whatever) may not be as wide as another company's tire in an "equal" width. The width of a rim will also have an affect on the tire's section width as it's mounted on a rim. Tire Rack's site has some good info that explains this better.

well, i just want to run 315's out back on my 3rd gen. if 17x9.5's will work... great, but wil 17x10's fit just as good? i want ROH ZS wheels. I'd like to get them so they don't stick out of the fender any farther than stock really. at least somewhat close. i deffinately don't wanna use wheel spacers either. any suggestions or any pics of 3rd gen's with 315's out back is appreciated. 3rd gen with ROH ZS wheels would be nice too. b thanx

I have 17 x 11's on the back of my camaro with 315/35's and I have no problems with the fender at all but the inner wheel well has a little spot that it rubs on extreme incline changes, no where near enough to hurt the tire.

No wheel spacers and no beating the fender in I just bought an adjustable panhard rod and centered them up and I was done. I forgot what my backspacing is but I would be more than happy to check if you need me too.

I have 315 BFG drag radials that I mount I my 17 x 10 rears. I don't have any clearance issues. THe only thing I did do is remove the bump stop an cut off the bracket they sit on. Once I got the car on the ground I realized I didn't have to do that, but I wanted to make sure. Maybe with the 17 x 11s you would have to remove it. Of course an adjustable panhard should be used to make sure your rear is centered...

BTW, I have 285/40s for daily driving, the drag radials are just too expensive to buy every 3 months...

how wide and tall of tire could u get on camaro 3rd. gen lol
w/ 15 inch wheels. not worried if tires to wide for 8 inch wheel because not goin any wider then that because i figure it stick otu past body.

i want fat rear tires mainly and was thinkin like 265 50's or anything wider but as tall as or not much taller or maybe even shorter then stock 215 65 15s

so im thinkin like 235 or 245 60 or 55s or something

but seen in jegs got bf's in 265 50s for bout 90 a tire which i dont think is bad at all.

so what size could i run w/ no rub or no spacers or nothin

mainly rear but front as well.
