Springs/shocks for a lightweight thirdgen

my car has basically an engine, a t5 trans, and a rear end

up until now its been mainly set up for drag racing no swaybar, original front shocks (over 150,000 miles) f41 springs, no front crashbeam, airbags, powertrax locker... worn out front suspension.

Words cannot describe how terribly the car handles and the novelty of having a straight line only car is starting to wear off on me. My buddy taunting me with his 300zx is also playing a part hehe

I want to autocross the car and do well. The car is NOT a daily driver.. I drive it every so often on the weekends.

So my question is which springs should I go for? I have heard much talk that the MOOG 5665/5662 combo trimmed a bit works real well BUT as it stand now the front of my car sits rediculously high off the ground because of all the weight removed and im fairly certain ill have to trim a good bit off the fronts to get the car to sit right (the car is around 3000 lbs )

will that have a real negative impact on things?

I allready have a set of WS6 swaybars to use and was planning on some KYB's for shocks unless anyone has a better suggestion for bang for the buck.

I've been reading alot here lately about autox/scca, and word is KYB is not good for this type stuff.

Bilstein (sp?) and Koni seem to be the choice for this type stuff.

Springs, my car is v6, so I havent been paying much attention to the v8 spring setups.

What other suspension things have you done?

I preffer the Konis over the Bilsteins, which tend to be a bit harsh without offering any real benefit. They work well on European cars, but don't ever seem at home on American ones.

Subframe connectors and a six point bar will really stiffen up the car, which will allow you to run a lighter spring.

Adjustable LCAs, panhard rod, and torque arm would all be advantageous. Get the spherical bearing type since the car won't see the street. These are much better than poly, which can cause binding.

The F41 springs are probably a bit stiff on a stock car, and are certainly overkill on a lighter car. Cutting them will only make them stiffer. I would try a set of Eibach lowering springs, or call Eaton Detroit spring and have them custom wind you a set (not as expensive as it sounds).

Alignment is crucial too. Try 1/8" Toe-in in the front for long tracks, and 3/16" Toe-out for short tracks. Run about 1.5 degrees of negative camber in the front. Try to get about 4-6 degrees of positive caster in the front too. Adding 1 degree negative camber to the rear, and abit of toe-in will also help, but requires tweaking the axel tubes, so it isn't for the faint hearted.

Rolling stock is another issue. Less sidewall, more rim. Wide, wide, wide.

Properly set up a 3rd gen should dominate autocross events. It isn't uncommon to see them pull over 1G in the skid pad and still be totally streetable.
