ZR1 wheels.....How can I fit 17x11's out back???

These wheels are pretty easy to come by these days for a good price, so I was wondering If there is anyway to fit 11 inches wide in the back without super modifications. I have all the necessary equipment to do pretty much anything, but I don't want to chop the car up too bad.

My dad owns a body shop so I could even widen the fenders if I needed to. I'll be running over 450 horsepower but still want 17's. So I'm gonna need at least 11 inches of rubber back there.

Has anyone done this???with this wheel????

17x11 comes in two sizes.
Acutal ZR1 rims in the rear are 36mm offset
Grandsport (ZR1) rims in the rear are 50mm offset.
The acutal ZR1 rim needs to be pushed out 1.25"
The Grand Sport needs to be pushed out 2"

I think you can use a 4-Gen rear end and used the Grand Sport with out any problem. (I think)

Can I see a pic of these on someone's car? I just wonder if it sticks out so far that you'd think a hill-billy drives it. Any problems with rubbing?

Visiting Skultes website is a good idea. That guy is a madman when it comes to wheel fitment. He has fit 10.5" wide wheels on the front and 11" wide wheels on the back. You just need the right backspacing and offset, and considering the guy makes his own adapters he's set! He will know how.

I can't comment on the wheels, but I am running 315/35-17 BFG Drag Radials on the rear of my 92. I didn't need to do anything other than remove the bump stop, which I might have been able to leave alone. I am using 17x10 Weld wheels with 5.5" backspacing if I remember correctly... Its been a few years since I bought the wheels... Hope this is helpful....

92 zzz28 can you post a pic of your car with those wheels? I would like to see how they look on your car. I am trying to decide on wheels as well.
Thanks

You can check in the back of the rim for the offset.

7 & 1/2 so you will need a 2" spacer

I have a brand new in the box pair if you need some 17x11s and the price is right.

Are those chrome or painted????

I have ZR-1 wheels on my 95 Trans Am. I need 11 inchers out back. 390 hp to the wheels is shredding 275's. Mine are painted though.

Are those the right offset to fit a 4th gen with no modifications???

how sexy would those wheels look (posted by jerrywho) if the dish was just 2" also eliminating the use of a spacer?!?!!

That would be sick. Maybe someone can photochop a pic so we can drool over it in our dreams.

I am in the process of doing the whole 11" wide rim thing. That pics do you want? i have everything. I will need machine my spacers as I made more room under there than I need right now, so i can tuck them even further. I am also kinda retarted/insane and am trying to pull of 335s. (old Viper tires)

here are a couple pics. They are all on my CD site. just surf around there for a bit.

by the way, I KNOW THEY STICK OUT. That is for all the guys that love to point that out and love to disregard the fact that it is a work in progress.

and one last one that shows a nice shot of them tucked just another 1/4" ( no rotor to see what it would look like)

later

those are big tires... it looks like yopure building a nice car there, i figured ill stick with 315's so it will be that much easier to get them to tuck correctly.

looks amazing man!

thx. I too will be going down to 315s, I just got a killer deal on all 4 of the old Viper tires. 200 bucks shipped. I also figure I needed some crappy tires while everything is breaking in.

Thanks for the compliment. The monster should be done in the spring.

Re: Re: hmmm........

Would it be safe to mill off a 1/2 to 3/4" of material where the end of the tape is touching in the picture that jerry posted? This would push my 11" wheels just inside the lip and look a lot better.

i dont think it would be safe to take 3/4" out of it. you might be able to get away with 1/2"...thats the most id try.

Thats not worth it in any way for 2 reasons:

1. you would be making the wheel weaker in a way it was not designed for.

and

2. You have to get spacers anyways, so just get a thinner spacer and it does the same thing as the machining of the wheel.

You need 2" spacers ususally. You wanna try and have it tuck more, then just get 1.7" or 1.5" and go from there.

I already have a 4th gen rearend so I do not need spacers. I need to find a way to get the wheel pushed in a bit. The only other way to do this to it get rid of the 4th gen rear and buy new wheels with a custom BS I guess. All well.

So basically the maximum backspacing you can go on our cars without running spacers is 5.5"?

They are American Racing racing wheels. 17x11 and 17x9 1/2. The wheels are called Le Mans and they are discontinued. The backspacing on the front is the same as a 4th gen fbody and the rear is the same ZR1 wheel. Thats all I know

also, eibach sport kit. - only "mod" I had to do was cut the front and rear corners off the bump stops. It wouldn't rub here other than on a lift w/ tires hanging though, so no big deal...

yes im sure they will but more massaging of the inner fender wells, plus you will need an adjustable panhard bar to center the rearend so you aren't over too much to 1 side
