Car rides like a BOAT at hi speeds

This summer at hi speeds my car has a bouncy left to right, right to left, front to back bounce. I have installed rear shock and new rear sway bar pins. The front suspension seems solid as it was just completly redone last summer and I have no steering problems. The only thing that I know I need to replace next are my rear springs. However when the car is parked and I push down on the car it only bounces once or twice but I know I need springs because of how low it sits and I was told this when I installed the shocks. My question is could the need for springs cause this boat like feeling or do I need more help like frame work or something?

There can be a lot of reasons why your car feels like it floats at high speeds. What kinda of shocks did you get? A new set of springs with some aftermarket suspension stuff will do wonders for your car. if you do not have money for that you could look into getting a replacment bushing set. That to will take some of the deflection out of your worn out pieces. Also, what tires are you running. What speed rating do they have. If you do not have a speed rated tire they will lose stability very easily at high speed.

Tire are 235/60/15 and 215/65/15. Never had a problem when they were new. This feeling just started and I think it maybe mechanical. Where are these bushings located? The new shocks are Gabriels. Any more ideas? thanks

Check the rating on your shocks they might not have enough of a rebound rating on them allowing your car under speed to "bounce" . The car defenitely should not bounce at all when pushed by hand, it should go down and stop when it comes up. Also old soft springs won't exactly help your situation.

That doesn't sound like worn-out springs (although the springs are certainly worn out if they haven't been replaced lately).

I'd be looking for broken parts; disconnected front sway bar from a broken end link, one or both rear upper shock mounts broken out, panhard bar bushings worn out or the bar itself bent, etc. etc. etc.

Also, just because you had something worked on last year, doesn't automatically mean there's nothing wrong with it. Look it over carefully, don't assume that it's good just because somebody replaced some parts, even if all th eparts that were replaced are still good, something else may have broken or failed.

Just get up under the car and look at every piece real close. It's just a car suspension, it's not rocket science or anything.

have to agree...check the sway bar endlinks. be surprised how they affect driving.

also, i replaced my struts/shocks with gabriels when i first got my car and they lasted 2,000 miles before having a "pogo" effect or floating as it can be referred too.

doesn't mean you have to spend thousands to have a decent suspension but there really is a difference in a 400 set as apposed to a 125 dollar set.

good luck with your problem.

These sway bar endlinks - Are they iin the front or on the rear sway bar? I know that was probably dumb but I just don't know.

After replacing the springs and checking these swaybar endlinks then it's under the car I go to check everything.

I am wondering is this "pogo floating" effect have anything to do with my frame twisting? I am definetly getting frame supports welding. I need that "tight" feeling.

And I really don't like the Gabriels. They are aPep Boys lifetime warrenty thing that I may have to bite the bullet on and start over. Ughhhhhh

Your frame didn't just up and break..... I hope. Not that subframe connectors wouldn't be a good idea, of course; but that sort of thing isn't what caused the car to suddenly change.

Get under the car and look for something broken or missing. Before you start randomly changing other parts that won't fix it.

There are sway bars on both front and rear of your car. Both of them have end links. Just get up under there and look, it's just a car suspension, it's real simple.
