Car: 1991 Camaro RS

check your RPO codes to be sure but the 92RS springs and sway bars will most likely be softer.

Difference between a IROC (HARD) performace & RS (SOFT) for cruising. That is the night and day difference.

well,i wanna do the exact opposite,so you're saying if i change sway bars& springs from an '87 IROC into an '89 RS convertible i can expect a stiffer(read that as better) suspension? i'm swapping the rear axle ( it's a rear disc/posi unit). would the trailing arms be different? i have all the pieces from donor car.:hail:

Mechanically speaking they are the same, but performance wise they are different. With the iroc having stiffer springs/bushings & maybe a lower gear ratio.

If the RS has the F41 suspension, they are not all that much different.

in my case, the car is a rs convertible with a 305 tbi/700r4 auto. it did have a rear sway bar,but no wonderbar up front. there really doesn't seem to be any performance options on the car but that is about to change ....... the iroc in question is an '87 305 tpi/auto that's waaayyy too far gone to save.i'm also wondering if the steering box is worth saving, whaddya think?

Any of the supension items from the IROC are worth transfering over to the RS. For example the Bilstein shocks & stucts (last for over 100,000 miles) sway bars and the steering box. And the TPI system. You have a gold mine and you just don't relize it. Take a look at e-bay and see what IROC parts are selling for.

well, the shocks were leaking so i have to assume they're junk. i am replacing all the bushings with the energy suspension polyurethane bushing and a shock/strut combo comparable to the bilsteins. i also figured this would a good time to clean, sand and paint everything so i have a nicely detailed suspension& the rear discs would look way too cool thru my billet rims.the steering box is really my point of concern at this point. as for the tpi ,the engine and trans were long gone before i got my mitts on the iroc. i wanna do an LT-1/T56 six speed swap( leaving the RS badges on to ruin a mustang's day,of course).can anyone tell me the desirable steering box numbers ? i'm thinking being an iroc with that rear axle, it might just have a better unit and it does seem to have a quicker ratio than my rs does(less turns):hail:

I don't have the numbers but ALL IROC' came stock with the fast ratio steering box if that helps. Yes, it would be better then the RS.

you guys rule!!! i thank you and my camaro thanks you,now if i could just keep my girlfriend's son from "modifying" his '91 z28(silver paint has NO place on the dash especially as an accent!) and my girlfriend to ditch that silly chrysler jx and get a real 'vert(third gen of course).well, maybe someday when world peace is achieved,we can hope. :hail: :hail: :hail:

All 92 rs's that came with the 16 inch wheels had the fast ratio steering box, thicker sway bars, etc. Basically everything the Z28 had except for different springs I believe. No wonder bar either.
