295/50/15 tire poll

i just got some 15x10 rear wheels for my car. the tires on there dont have a lot of tread left, so ill have to be buying some soon. im looking for a 295/50 street tire that would hook up at the drag strip. please vote on the poll for which tire you think would suit my needs best. opinions and comments are also welcome

HiPerf. Tires???

I'm very happy with my Ventus H-101 at $86 each. I can't imagine how they could be any worse than any of the ones listed--including the Dueler HP truck tire. These are all "middle grade" all-season tires anyway.

id like to hear some feedback about the bfg radial t/a tires. i read a lot of reviews about how they have great traction off the line, however the tread width on them is a little thinner than most. ive seen these tires in real life, and pictures, and according to the specs on them they run a little thin. did anyone that owned these tires notice that? i kind of agree with admiral too, there cant be much of a difference between all-season radials right? anyone noticed improvements of one of these tires over the other as far as traction off the line? the dunlops look to have the most tread width, and are pretty cheap......they kind of looked the best to me in the beginning. has anyone owned both tires before and can compare them? sorry for all these questions, but i just want to buy the right tire since ill be stuck with what i buy for a while

I just put some BFG Radial T/A's on my car altho they're 245/60/15's on the stock 15x7" wheel(Gives a tread width of 9.8"). I can't say how well they hook being so new still and not really having the power to say either. But if you're looking at BFG's line of tires why not go with the BFG Drag radials. I think they hold the world record 1/4 mile time for a street tire at almost 9 seconds flat???

EDIT: Just checked and it's actually 8.4 seconds for the 1/4 with a BGF drag radial. Set by Paul Efantis in april of this year.

well, i guess i forgot to mention that the tires are going on my daily driver. the bfg drag radials wouldnt last too long, and id have paid quite a bit of money for just a little bit of use. also, you cant take them on too long of a highway trip without them blistering. i dont think theyre made in a 295/50 either. thanks for the suggestion though.

i just realized that people may have misunderstood me when i said tread width. rega, the 9.8" you were referring to is the section width (sidewall to sidewall). when i said tread width i meant the amount of tread contacting the ground. the section width shouldnt vary much between brands on the same size wheel, but the tread width can vary some. i was saying the tread width on the bfg radial t/a tires runs a little thinner than most.

FYI, Actual use update...

I road raced at an SCCA sponsored event this weekend.
The course was an intense corner-carver/slolam type laid out with cones on a parking lot. The Ventus Hankooks were great! Off the line those meats hooked up pretty good with moderate wheel spin. I with I had my digital camera with me.

cool, sounds like fun. they probably have a pretty stiff sidewall if they can take those turns well, right? id rather have a tire with a real soft sidewall since i wont be taking any fast turns (drag suspsension setup), but im definitely considering the hankooks since theyre so cheap. i think ill have to just see what i can buy locally, and hope for the best. thanks for your help
