Borg-Warner 9-bolt filler
Okay, Borg-Warner's 9-bolt from an '89 firebird (formula). The differential faceplate has a black rubber cap as shown below, which bleeds fluid. Is that the filler, even though it's halfway down the plate? If not, where is the filler, because none of the bolts on top feel quite right. Need help soon. Is my daily driver.

Yep, that's the only hole in the pumpkin. You gotta fill thru there. Miles @ www.9bolt.com can get you a new one.

...?
Okay, so how the hell? I couldn't even get it to budge. Does that mean that I only have the fill the diff to have its capacity? That's the best the rubber stopper is going to do.

You are correct, here ya go:
You CAREFLULLY pry it out, or if you're refilling the diff anyway, just pull the cover off and push it out from the inside. That way you're less likely to damage it during removal. These things are hard to find at a local dealer, but Miles at www.9bolt.com has them. And yes, you only fill the diff halfway, until fliud starts to come out of the hole. It's not chock full of oil.
As an alternative and to avoid having to replace the thing should I tear it, I welded a Moroso bung on the back of it. Looks trick and was only about $20.

Those rubber plugs harden with age and start leaking. Been there, done that. I went to the Chev dealer and they had a replacement for only a couple bucks.
The best way to get it out is to pull the cover then push it out from the back side. That way you won't tear it up. Replacement cover gaskets are not too expensive.
