245/60R15's are taller and will probably rub. Mine rubbed hard with 245/60/R15's, not at all with 245/45R16's I have now. You can use the 245/60R15's, just don't crank the wheel. Or use 235/60R15's.

245/50R16 and 245/60R15 tires are virtually identical in height, less then a tenth of an inch difference. If you were rubbing with 245/50R16s then there was a problem somewhere else. These were an OEM tire size and I get no rubbing on my GTA at all. Perhaps the wrong wheel offset if you didn't go with an OEM 16 inch wheel. On third gens the offsets are different between the front and rear wheels. Rear wheels will rub if put on the front (Tire warehouse did this to me a few years ago.)
Basically the proper wheel offset is critical for properly fitting a 245 tire on your car. Whether OEM 15 inch wheels have the necessary offset for a 245/60R15 tire is the question that needs to be answered.

275-40-17 on the front of my 83TA - needed 5/16 spacers to clear the tie rod - very little rubbing - not enough to worry about.
Edit - had 235 -- 15s on there before - not rubbing at all.

I stand corrected. I must have made a calculation error initially. 245/60R15s are 1 inch higher then 245/50R16s. Sorry for the misinformation earlier. And thanks for the corrections fellas.
