jegster torque arm
im looking into buying this torque arm
http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...07&prmenbr=361
i was wondering if anyone had used it, and if they were happy with it. is it a pretty sturdy piece?
the reason im thinking of this as opposed to the spohn adjustable piece is money, and that i want to be able to put a variety of transmissions in my car.
thanks for the info

The only thing I see wrong with the Jegster is it's not adjustable. One of the main reasons for a torque arm is to adjust pinion angle. The other is to get the front mount off of the tranny. If you don't like Spohn then take a look at BMR Fabrication.

onebadwagon....The Jegster is not adjustable! If it was it would have rod end links on the rear end mount. take a look at this one.

For 329.95 it is only 70 bucks more than the Jegster and IMO it is worth the extre money. I am not trying to push their products but just stating the facts to the question you asked. Personally I built my own adjustable TA about 5 years ago and there was not much out for the 3rd gens and what was out was major $$$$$ that I refused to pay.
If you are increasing the power of you car then traction is going to become a problem. With an adjustable TA you can optimize you pinion angle (ie: 2 to 3 degrees of negative pinion angle) and this will help to hook up better on a launch.

the BMR arm looks good, the only thing i don't like about it is that is is quite a bit shorter than the factory arm.
of course that may be a good thing , or a bad thing depending on what you use your car far, with it being shorter it will cause more wieght transfer, for drag racing that is a good thing, but for a handling, that is not such a good thing, it will cause the car to dive under braking, and sit down under acceleration.

Shorter is better for accleration. On acceleration the pinion wants to go towards the sky which in turn pushes up on the body giving a little lift and planting the tires. However on breaking the pinion wants to dive to the ground compressing the suspension. The effect it has on my car is not noticeable on breaking. I have H&R sport coils which lowered the car about a 1 1/2. The car is set up to turn corners and drag, if you can have both to any degree to complement each other!
One of the coolest TA's I saw for road racing and auto cross for a 3rd gen was from Herb Adams. I bought it back in 95 for $700 but it did not fit with a Ford 9" rear so I returned it and made my own. It was a short design that used a spring bar on the bottom preloaded on a rubber bumper so under accleration it would bow pushing up on the body. On the top was a slider bar with a rubber bushing in the middle. On accleration the slider would slide apart from the bushing but on breaking it would compress on the bushing only allowing the pinion to dive to the amount you determined through adjustment of the slider bar. All of this mounted on a tunnel mount bracket. It was supposed to enhance traction and eliminate wheel hop under hard breaking.

I bought it direct from Herb Adams in Cali. I would not do buisness with them again because I had several problems getting the TA and once I got it the workman ship looked like crap and it did not fit. I sent it back and it took 4 monthes to get my money. I had to get my credit card co. to do a charge back.

well, the decoupled torque arm is great in theory, and if you can excute it, it works great, but the HA torque arm were known for being problematic, and being a bitch to get installed. for most people a design like spohns is the way to go. but like everything else it has its downside. IIRC the spohn arm is a bit shorter than stock, but nothing extreme, or near extreme enough to be a worry for stopping.

laiky....I will double check at my shop to see if I have any info from them but if memory serves me correct I pitched it all.
Dewey....You are correct about in theory. The diagrams looked cool and I had an article in a mag with pics of one installed on a 3rd gen. It looked like a great piece for road racing as thats where its roots came from. I ended up fabricating my own but if I had to by one I would choose BMR's.

i have had my jeg bar for 6yrs.it is the most solid arm i have ever seen as far as pinion angle it is set from the factory and my car sits like factory so no problems there it has been in two of my cars on its way to a third, with my 5-spd car it accelerated very hard while spinning the tires(hard radials)but you can feel it attepting to make those tires hook so in short it works...

anybody have experience autocrossing or road racing a short torque arm?? I wan't good traction on the street but not at the cost of handling or braking. I am still undecided as to which one to get. I was thinking about the track link, but its very expensive. i like spohn but i will have a fitment problem. What i really want is to be able to drive off corners hard while still being able top brake without hopping. I have a set of LS1 rear brakes to put on my car and an adjustable prop valve.

I picked up the jegster product on ebay for $170, so I could not pass it up. From what I am told, it seems to be a great tourqe arm for drag racing, what with it being so short and angled just right to plant the tires to the ground very good. I have not installed it yet because it looks like it will go right over my E brake cables in the tunnel....??? Can someone who has installed it tell me how you fit it in with your E cables not getting messed up? Other than that seems to be a good looking and good working torque arm. Like it has been stated already, if you want to get another tranny, this torque arm is the way to go. Shorter is better.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU INSTALLED IT WITHOUT MESSING UP YOUR E BRAKE CABLES IN THE TUNNEL???
THANKS

I just purchased it and results are on this forum.
fasterbird: it leaves gap between tunnel and mount for e-brake.
No problems at all.
