How long did it take for your springs to settle, and a few questions...

My school is having a car show on March 22nd and I'm thinking about lowering my car. My dad is totally against me lowering my car, but I think if I just argue that it's my car and my money spent he'd probably let me, but in that parental ~rolls eyes~ kinda way... anyway, what I'm wondering is, if I ordered the springs and lowered my car... say... next week, would there be enough time for the springs to settle and drop the car most of the way? Also, I was talking to this ASE mechanic, we dropped my friend's civic and I asked him about settling springs and stuff. He said that they(on this civic) were already where they were going to be, he lined them up in the perches and "When we set it on the ground, that's how low it's going to be...." I was wondering, is this a strut thing or is this whole spring settling thing bs or what? When I did it on his car, you could turn the springs around until they set in the strut right, and I'm guessing that was it. But everyone says on our cars they settle... what's the final answer here? Thanks.

I thought -all- springs have to settle. I'm 99% sure I've heard my import-club friend talk about springs settling, too.

Hrm... maybe it was because the springs had been used a little, so all they needed was to be seated properly?

Eibach Springs don't need to settle according to the FAQ on thier site. Not sure of other brands.
