Anyone try to rebuild the gearbox?
I just replaced everything under the front of my car, tierods, center-link, a-arm bushings, balljoints, idler arm, struts, springs....but the damn thing still goes all over the road. I am guessing the gear box is bad. I adjusted the play out of it but still likes to wonder all over the place. I was going to get a rebuild kit for $25.00 and asked about a new one and the said $189.00. What to do..... Anyone ever rebuild one? Thanks for the help

Yes... not too hard; use thick NON-FIBER grease to hold the ***** in place while you pack them back in, and put the Teflon sealing rings in boiling water for a minute or 2 to soften them up before you try to put them on. I'd suggest getting a spare gear from the buzzard (doesn't have to be from a F-body, could be a A or G body for example, as long as it's the same type as the one you have), and practice taking it apart first so you know what you're getting into before you attempt on your own, and so you'll have a couple of *****, which it seems like there's never enough when you go to put it back together.

The ***** need to go in black-silver-black-etc.
I did the rebuild and it was a failure.
1. The teflon rings even when boiled were still loose on the drum after install.
2. The kits really only replace the soft parts (seals gaskets), however it also replaced the roller bearings.
3. The instruction in the manuals and the rebuilt kits suck
4. After rebuilding the box and doing a test drive it blew a bottom seal.
Okay this was my experience and I just sharing it with you. Success might be your outcome.
But i Highly recommend Lee Engineering in California.
I sent them my box and they did an amazing job, rebuild, cleaned, magnafluxed, metal treatment, upgraded valves and heavier torsen bar. Also other modifications, they do Boneville, NASCAR and others for over 30 years. Cost is about $300 for everything. It will be better than new. Also better than AGR.
