Yes you can do them yourself.........rear springs shouldnt be a problem for you once you have the car up......the fronts are a little more complicated to do and you might need a spring compressor to do them with.........I know that when guys put lowering springs on they go right in cause they are smaller than stock.......might be a good idea to get you new coil spring isolators also if the old ones are trashed...the isolators sit on top of the spring.............rear: support rear axle with a hydraulic jack and jack it up,put car up on jackstands, remove tire,Loosen the track bar bolt on axle, disconnect the rear brake hose clip also from underbody to help additional axle drop, remove the bottom bolt on the rear shock, lower the jack on rear axle until the spring and isolator can be removed with enough clearance,......installation is reverse of course.........I havent done my fronts yet and I just might buy them and have a shop I go to install them, keeps me from busting my knuckles........but the rears shouldnt be to bad and you will like the feel of the WS6 springs.........

Ham...Auto Zone springs are the ...variable rate type... what does that mean I dont have a clue......I know when I put new springs in the rear and even though they were 4thgen ones it raised the rear up a bit and stiffened it a whole lot....the ones I had on the car made it look like a low rider in da back.....I saw another post on springs before and a guy put 95 TA spring in his and didnt have any problems with them......as for me I wanted WS6 rear springs in my Firebird just like it came stock from the factory and as soon as I get the part number for the fronts I'll put 4th gen ones in it also......alot of I guess depends on what you want for your car and how much your willing to spend on it in the long run.....i'm sure that when GM was making 1LE,WS6,Iroc springs for cars they came off of the same platform for suspension......I may be wrong but it seems like the only cars to get better suspension upgrades were the Iroc's,Z-28's,Trans am's,Formula's.......and i'm sure if you put them all side by side they are probabaly the same.........anybody else have input into stock springs.......

well the only thing that pisses me off is my suspension sucks. the old oner was an ******* and let it go to hell, so of course i have tons of tents and what not in my exhaust. so if the springs work hell thats cool. i dont want it raised too much but i guess there isnt much i can do to help stop that.

i put a Eibach ProKit in place of my 145K mile springs and they did not lower my car a bit and thats exactly what i was hoping for, you might be able to put some 1" lowering springs with the new thicker GM spring isolators and not experience a drop.

well i'd guess about 2-3 feet. enough so the lower control arm can swing out. just make sure you support the car at the frame rails just behind the tires with jackstands. that should be just enough room. then you can use the floorjack to lower and raise the arm.

also when doin the rear springs. you dont have to drop the trackbar or disconnect any brake lines. all u have to do is dis connect the bolt at the bottem of the shock(s) and if need be the swap bar bolts if needed. and with the car on jack stands on the subframes and rear wheels off. u just jack up one side of the axle and then the spring should come out. and do the same for the other side.
me and my brother changed his springs in his 86 sport coupe and his 91 z28. on his 91 we had to disconnect the swap bar but other then that its just un bolting the shocks and follow what i said to do. its not that hard to do. me and my brother got his cars done in an 1 hour to an 1 1/2 for each car.

Ham..........the ..isolator......is a piece of rubber that sits on top of the spring, if it doesnt come out when you take the rears off just look up and you will see it stuck up there........it would be best to replace them on both sides when you do the rears........................and I love my 2002 WS6 rear springs on my 1992 Firebird...............

Try Jegs. I believe they carry Energy Suspensions isolators for about $6.00 a pair.

I waited FOREVER for Energy to send me new poly front isolators and they kept pushing back the ship date, so I cancelled. Maybe they have them now..

As far as the 2002 WS6 front springs, they wont work. You can only use the rears. The front on the fourthgens use shocks instead of struts. I believe that the new springs are usually black, but I dont know if it is paint, powdercoat or what. I dont think it would be worth it, but if you do decide to do it I would make sure that it powdercoating will flex with the spring instead of breaking.

thats why i asked about the powdercoating... ive seen thigns where theyve busted a hammer at a piece of powdercaoted material and the coating flexes with the big indent. ok ws6 springs for the front are outta the question but ill get them for the rear...
about the bushing kit in Jegs, is it a good idea?

The $37 springs are part number fcs5662 for an IROC. They are rated at 706 lbs. (stiff) and are about a quarter inch shorter than Z28 springs. Z28's are part #fcs5610 about $61 they rate at 420Lbs. (less stiff). Berlinettas use a 5276 but I cannot find a rate on them.

On Autozone's website I used an 85 camaro and got those part numbers

Also, the ones from autozone are said to be made by perfect circle not moog. Will they still have the same spring rate? They have an s at the end of the part number on autozones site by the way. If the should have the same spring rate on the ones from autozone I may be getting new front springs soon.

When I checked out the Autozone site for these, it tells me that for my area, these are not a stocked part in stores - it seems they may only be available through the web site (at least in my area), hence maybe why your having trouble getting them at your local store.
