brake hose bolt torque spec

I have no idea what its called, but its the bolt that holds down the brake hose to the caliper on the front. what is the torque spec for it? When I put new hoses on I dont think I got the bolt tight enough. I've got a leak on that side and I think that is what is causing it.

TexasLT1,

The bolt your refering to is called a 'banjo bolt'. I am assuming your front calipers are the stock iron ones. Per my '86 Camaro shop manual they call for the banjo bolt to be torqued up to 32 lb. ft. (44 N.m) They also state to lubricate the threads with brake fluid before tightening to that spec. It seems high to me considering that banjo bolt is hollow in the center! Anybody else have a different torque value?

Did you install new copper washers with the new lines? Maybe there is dirt or rust that is preventing the inner washer from sealing tight to the caliper boss and is causing your leak. If you did install new washers were they larger or smaller in diameter (ID and OD) than those you took off?

Thanks WE, I knew it was something like that but couldn't quite remember the name. Yes the new hoses came with new washers for both sides, and as far as I know they were the exact same as the stock ones. I'm pulling the rim off tomorrow to check it out. I dont think I tightened them to anywhere near 32 lbs, so I'll check. Oh, and yes it is the stock iron calipers. Hopefully its just that the bolt is loose, I dont want to have to replace anything in the school parking lot.

Thanks
