steering, need help please

I have rebuilt my entire front end, but hte steering is still not tight. A few weeks ago I did new springs,sway bars, tie rod ends, centerlink, idler arm. Last year did struts, control arm bushings and ball joints. Could it be my ball joints have gone bad already(they came from auto zone-but everything else is name brand like moog, energy sus.,hotkis) I do hear a creeking or poping sound sometimes when turning at low speeds. If ball joints are bad how are TRW brand I can get them at a local parts store so they could be done this weekend. Also how do you change the steering coupler or rag joint I have been reading on this that they go bad so I picked one up from the HELP section at Auto Zone, hope its the right one. I realy need to get this steering thing fixed with good alignment because just ordered new fully polished ROH ZS wheels with TOYO tires so dont want to wear these new tires out to soon(cost me a bunch)

i bet your frame is cracked behind the steering box. have someone turn the wheel back and forth and look at it for movement.

Car: 1986 Z28 / 2012 CLS550
Engine: F-1R -> Aluminum block 540
Transmission: T56 Magnum + GForce gears
Axle/Gears: Ford 9" 3.00's + Eaton Truetrac
On my car, it looks like the steering shaft is loose up where it looks like it would 'slide' in and out (about 1 foot out from the firewall. I don't know the technical name for that part, but I can grab the lower half with some wrenches, and when a friend turns the wheel, you can see play in that area. I replaced steering box, rod ends... and steering is still loose feeling.
