Shims???????

Anyone know where I can find shims that go between the axel and rotor. Basically goes in the inside of the rear rotor. I need a 1/8 shim that goes between that area cause the caliper rubs the disc during hard breaking. Thanks

No PBRs, stock replacement pads. Just started scraping cause the caliper piston is crooked. After the piston is straighten the mechanic recommended a 1/8" shim but he nor I can't find any. He said he can get a machinst to make me one but I aint paying extra.

Oh, and how can I straighten the piston. The mechanic said it was ok. No severe signs of wear. I'm guessing you can straighten it by the springs that are by the piston. Am I correct?

One more thing...What spacers are recommended steel or aluminum?

First if you were to go the spacer route, 6061-T6 Aluminum. A machinist could cut a set of these in the matter of minutes.

Let me get this right.....your rear calipers are aluminum....right? If so, they are made by PBR for GM. I just dont recall any use of castiron units on a '92......but then again, it could of been Friday at the plant.........

If they are, you can buy a piston and seal kit from GM fairly cheap. But if the mech stated that the piston is crooked, what made it crooked? The only thing I can think of is that the pad was worn so low that the piston was extended too far and was then either bent or......

If thats the case and the caliper housing isnt bad, I say throw a piston and seal at it and fix it right the first time. A shim is a bandaid, considering that you have a stock system. Shims are not a bad thing, just watch the overthickness of them, compared to the lug bolts. On your car with stock studs, I wouldnt want to really go any thicker than 1/8" but you would be on the limits with anything over 3/16".

I have to run a 3/16" spacer on my fronts, only when the pad is new....cuz I only have about 0.100" clearence. But after a few weeks I could ditch'em until.......

Check this out...and they said it couldnt be done...so I just had to prove them wrong...

A 13" Baer track system in a 16" 'Vintage Wheelworks 45'.

I know Dutch (formerly of Guldstrand) from Baer, and Rusty the wheel manufacturer......... both were sayin NO WAY, until they saw the pictures.

I'm not much of a brake person. Didn't know PBR made my brakes. Their aluminum alright. I'm prolly goin to have a machinist make a shim on Wednesday. Looks like it would be a good idea to throw a new piston and seal in. I think I'll have the mech do that since I'm lazy.

I can't believe they stuffed that Vintage wheel with 13" baer brakes. DAYM!! :hail: :hail: Looks like anything is possible. Thanks for ur time

Goto the junkyard. 1/8" shims were used on some f-body drum applications.
