Rear drum to PBR in a 92 Questions Inside.

Ok, first off, I did a search but did not find an exact answer to my question.

With that being said: I just picked up a 9 bolt with rear PBR's on it. My car (1992 T/A Vert) is Cast front disk/rear drum. The front brakes are staying stock for now.

Now, my question: Is the stock Prop Valve the right one for this set up? I know that the rear PBR's were offered without the front 1le brakes in this year, so Im assuming that this valve is the correct one, but Im not %100 sure.

Thanks for your help!

My parts and illustration manual only covers up to '91 year models, but look a bit down this page for the part numbers listed there:

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...e&pagenumber=2

It should be the same anyway. I would think you may have to change to P/N 10164112 unless you go with 1LEs on the front, then go with 10136840.

J65= disc/disc
J41= disc/drum, iron
J42= disc/drum, aluminum

I'm basically trying to figure out the same thing that you are in this current thread. If what you say is true then I may not need to change my valve either and I HAVE upgraded to 1LE's and they work fine.

Werent the PBR calipers the ONLY rear brake calipers used after 88? If I remember correctly, the old style cast calipers were discontinued due to problems with them, and 88 was the last year they were used.

Basically, I need the valve off of lets say a 91 GTA with disk/disk. That car should have the cast calipers up front, and the PBR calipers in the rear.

I read alot of the previous threads, including Eds, but I still cant really find anything concrete.

I just came across this quote...

If you have an 89-92 with disc/drum, or 4 wheel disc brakes. Then you should already have the correct master cyl and proporioning valve.
So hes saying that 89-92 prop valve's/mc's are all the same?

10136841 is the right choice.

I sure wish my old "1LE questions sticky post" was still up.https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...=1LE+Questions

But I will try and answer this question.

GM part#s 10136840 and 10136841 have been superceded (combined) by GM part# 10136839.

The combination valve you need is GM part# 10164112 (AC Delco part# 172-2074) broadcast code MC/MD.

Beginning in late 1989 through the end of production in 1992 this 10164112 was used on ALL J65 and 1LE equipped cars.

So if your late '89-'92 car was originally equipped with rear drum brakes? Then you will need to change the combination valve to 10164112.

I hope I have been of some help in clearing this up.

Thanx,ANDYZ28

Yeah, what Andy said. I've gotten a bit confused with all the numbers going fast and turning left in my head.
