? about a Lube job
I need to do a chassis lube. My ? is can someone give me a quick rundown on the location of my grease fittings? I found all those to do with the steering components, but are there anymore? I've got a 92 model Camaro. Thanks for any help.

In the :hail: Haynes Repair Manual on page 1-12, the is a nice picture of all the grease fittings (or lube points)(or nipples) under the front end of the car. There are ten arrows pointing to the ten nipple locations. I was under my car with the book and I think they have one too many arrows in the picture. So, there should be nine lube points under the front end (steering linkage and lower ball joints) from what I saw under my 92 Camaro RS.
You can check out the Haynes Repair Manual at an auto store like Pep Boys or Advance.

"There are 9 grease fittings in the front suspension of our cars. I think on last count I'm up to 27 total on my car now."
27 total grease fittings on the car! I was only aware of the 9. Where are the others?
PS: I'm gonna lube my car soon too.

OK, 9 on the stock front suspension. Add 4 for the Del-a-Lum LCA bushings, 4 for the front & rear greasable sway bar bushings, 4 for rear LCA's (Custom installed by me), then I can't recall how many are on the Spohn original style adjustable torque arm. The total may be closer to 24. I'm just going by memory.

Thanks for the responses, this just gives me more reason to keep looking around for more fittings. I think about 9 is all I've come across myself,... I didn't realize there were that many more. If anyone else can give more specific locations, please do so. By the way, my chassis is completely stock. I've got a creeking groan sound coming from the front suspension. Will this lube help with this? Thanks again for the responses.

There are only 9 on a stock suspension. You found them all. I don't believe lubing them will solve your noise. Unless they were completly dry, (very bad). You need to jack up your car and inspect all the steering components for wear and damage. If you aren't sure what to look for, then take it to a shop for a professional evaluation. If you have switched to aftermarket polyurethane bushings, that can be a source for the creaking and groaning. Energy Suspension makes a special grease that is somewhat sticky, to help prevent washout. You should have used it when the bushings were installed. Another source for creaking and popping is the a crack in the frame near the steerig gear box mount. Installing a Steering Brace or Wonder Bar will help to prevent that from happening. If it is cracked, you'll need to weld it and reinforce it.

Is the coupler on the grease gun (the part of the grease gun that actually connects to the grease fitting on the car) supposed to connect in a snug way? That is, is it supposed to grip the grease fitting? Or do you have to push and hold the grease gun onto the fitting while shooting the grease in there?
I just bought a grease gun (manufactured by PEWS) thinking that the coupler adjusts so that it can fit a number of different sized grease fittings. After not being able to adjust the coupler, a guy tells me that it is not adjustible; that you push and hold it in place while shooting the grease. Is he right?

lube ball joints
Once the rubber reservoir around the lower control arm balljoints are full of grease, how does the grease escape? Do we need to re-lube them everytime we do an oil change (every 3k - 5k miles)?

Yes you should lube them at every oil change time. The grease will burp out of the rubber boot. Wipe off the excess grease from the boot and fitting. I sell grease fitting covers in black, red and blue colors that protect the grease fittings from dirt and debris between oil changes. I'm attaching a picture. $2.50 for a pack of 10.
