Is it possible to swap a 3rd gen brake system into a 1st gen car? I have a V6 3rd gen donor car with a drum rear and would like to swap the entire system into my V8 non power/all drum '68 Firebird. I'd like to know as much as possible about this swap before I start ripping into either car such as: what parts will I need off the 3rd gen? Will I have to fabricate anything additional for the swap? Will it really be worth it when I am done? (Keep in mind that this particular '68 is a far cry from a numbers matching purist car and I have no real budget to speak of). Thanks in advance for any help.

 

the thirdgen front discs are too puny to stop the car reasonably. i'd go with a larger rotor from a b-body car caprice, impala or monte. they have 12"-13" rotors. i can't remember the size off hand but, a hell of alot better then a thirdgen's 10.5" front rotor.
the rear drums maybe a worthwhile swap..

 

The 3rd gen spindles are completely different from 1st gen ones (strut vs upper & lower ctrl arms)... so basically, you really need a 1st gen donor car with disks for those.

About the only thing that I know for sure will swap over is the pads; the calipers might, i don't know about that, but nothing else will.
