The Recall for the 82-88 rear calipers

Was there a recall on this as in you could bring it in to the dealer and they fixed it for free or is it just a TSB that tells you what YOU need to buy and how YOU can fix it? I am really confused about this....I want to get the brakes working right on the IROC....I HATE the soft pedel, I hate the long stopping distances and the accelerated front pad wear.

Humm, as I recall, replacement is a freebie, but on manual transmissions only. Check with your dealership.

Well, there was a recall and like JamesC said sticks only. Remember this is a "Recall" not a TSB and Recalls are forever. Go get it done.

I have read posts on this topic and alot of people are being turned away by dealerships for this. I can not remember al the details of it but if this is truly something that GM should be fixing forever, why are so many people being turned away?

From what I've read it was for manual trans only.

In the course of looking into it years ago the dealers that I spoke with denied that there was any recall for this whether for manual or auto.

My dealership entered the vin number of my car in their computer system, and from that number could tell me if any recalls were open for thqt vehicle. A recall is good regardless of owner or miles. If you car fits the recall, demand that it be repaired. You 'may' find more info at alldata.com. There is a recall; it is for manuals only.

cool but slight problem...i had the 87 IROC with the 9 bolt...well it was a stick be the car was wreaked and it now resides in an auto..but that will be changed out to a stick. I know the General Manager of Sales very well at one GM dealership and i prob can get it done....when they ask for VIN maybe i should just give them the VIN off the black car....i will call him and see what is up.

If I recall correctly, the recall was for the slack adjuster spring for the parking brake. It wasn't strong enough or something. GM decided that since auto's have "Park" they'd only recall it for the manuals. If they don't fix it as a recall, I don't imagine the springs would set you back a whole lot anyway.

Well, heres some more info. Tell the dealler to look up Product Safty Campaign #86C28 for 82 to 86 Camaros with rear disc brakes and a stick. If you fall into this category and you get turned down call Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020. If they won't help you call NHTSA/DOT at 1-800-424-9393. That will get the ball rolling. The Bulletin is (7) pages long and calls for replacing a whole bunch of parts as needed.

Well, like I said 82 to 86. I don't know anything about the rear disc brakes on 87 & 88's.
