I was considering swamping a rear disc 8.5 10 bolt rear out of a 1980 Trans AM into a 1984 Trans am.

The reason Id like to do this is because the 8.5 10 bolt axle is beefier than the 7.5 stock 10 bolt in the 84 TA.

My question is how good are the rear disc brakes on the 80 TA comparing to the rear disc brakes on the 84 TA. Or is there a way to put the rear disc brakes from the 84 TA on the 80 TA axle ?

Anyone know how big the rear rotors are on the 80 TA and 84 TA ?

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions on this apprechated

I just did a rearend swap in my monte and looked into the 2nd gen camaro's as well because of their width. But the problem is there is no way to attach the torque arm. Since the housing is cast you can't weld it. I think you can get a specialty shop to weld it but that gets expensive quick. I found a ford 9" in the junk yard that was the right width for a 100 bucks. I lucked out and it had a 3.25 posi in it. The thing about the 9" is you can weld to the housing and fab up a mount for the torque arm. I had to fab upper cotrol arm mounts for my monte. As for brakes i'm not sure on the 2nd gen brakes but i have made the 10.5" brakes work on my 9".
