rearend alignment

Dows anyone know if a rearend can get out of alignment? I had my anti-sway bar aout a while ago and when I went to put it back on the bar wouldnt match up to the mount on the driver side. I'm not sure if the mount is off, if the rear moved, or if it has been like this all along.
Also when I hit a bumb while going down the road, the rear feels like it kicks to one side and kicks the back end of the car to one side.

it can't unless something is bent or broken. solid axle cars like ours are pretty simple back there.

By sway bar you mean the bar that bolts to the rear end and then bolts at both end to the chassis. Not the panhard bar that attaches to the frame on one end and the rear end on the other. This sounds simple but i have heard people call the panhard bar a sway bar before. If you unbolt the panhard bar the rear end is free to move back and forth on its own so its possible to have it not line back up when you try to bolt it up.

Yeah, I did mean the antisway bar and not the panhard bar. I had that off too, but not at the same time. I knew it could move if I took them both off at the same time.
If I took it to a shop, would they be able to tell me if it was off?

If the panhard bar is bolted up then it should be right back where it was before you took it off. You might want to check your lower control arm bolts I had a friend who had the same problem with his car feeling like it was moving around on him, ended up one of his lower control arm bolts had almost fell out and was letting it move around. I would just manuever the sway bar around till both mounts are close then bolt them up. GM was never perfect so i doubt the mounts will line up perfectly.

When you hit a bump, the rear end does move a little to the side, because of the panhard bar being at an angle. Usually tho, you can't really feel it. It sounds like you've got something loose back there.
