State of the 3rd Gen....
Hello guys,
I had a wake up call the other day. I was channel surfing the other day and happened to land on a channel where they were testing the new Nissan Altima. Since I've thought it was a neat car I left it there.
They took the Altima to the track and ran it through the quarter. Well imagine my surprise when they ran a 14.4 @ 100mph with it! This was the Altima 3.5 SE with the V6 engine.
What a wake up call! My GTA ran 14.4 @ 98 the first time I took it to the track and a best of 14.3. We all know that 350 3rd gens were good for mid to low 14's. This Altima is right there!
So that got me thinking. When I drive around I feel pretty good about my control of the road and my place in the food chain. I'm very cautious though so I never push it. However, before now I would never have considered anything like the Altima an equal let alone a threat.
I'm humbled to think that with all the other cars on the road now I'd have to mod my car into the mid 13's before my 3rd gen could regain its rightful place on the road. What do you guys think about this?
Oh, and by the way. I had my baby! Check it out:

Congrats Juan!!
Welcome to the brotherhood of Fathering:hail:
He looks great! And a biggy too! I trust all went smooth?
I followed a buddy in his Altima to lunch one day.
It was shock that I had to floor it catch up. It wouldn't have been my first car to look out for that's for sure.

There are two things that influence performance, power and weight. 350 Chevy's have no shortage of power, or at least potential to make power. Unfortunately, f-bodies are HEAVY.
They weren't considered heavy in 1967 when first manufactured, but on today's road they give away 1000lbs or more to a car like the Altima. If an Altima is making 200 hp, the f-body needs 275-300 hp to stay with it. The bright side is that the 350 in our cars is at the mid to low end of power potential stock. The Altima is virtually locked into being stock, so while it performs well, there isn't much potential for improvement.

Congrats on the new baby, welcome to fatherhood. My wife needed to make a phone call, so I had to get off line too quick, and forgot about your new baby on my previous post.
