Re: Dyno Results

Amazing numbers for TPI cars......I especially like Allens car since its running the stock style LTR intake.

Pictures and a list of mods would be awesome. Especially interested to hear about the dual converter setups as the exhaust is the first major mod I'd like to make.

Re: Dyno Results

Wow! Thats the most powerful group of NA TPI 350 based engines I have ever heard of! imagine all that in one place. very impressive. The most interesting part is even though you guys have unlocked the "secret" by using the massively ported and welded bases some have the siamesed runners others have a super ram. Kudos to you all!

Re: Dyno Results

I think the average rear wheel horsepower for all four cars was 401.5. Three of the 4 cars were running Dyno Don short tube headers. The 4th car will be switching to Dyno Don headers. By the way the displacement of the cars was 355, 360, 368 and 383. Still it is all about airflow.

When I called a couple months ago to ask on the prices at Dr J's I believe he told me 800 for the base with a weld job and port job.

Question: Any data on how the stick cars compare to autos with similar engine mods? I know it's an old one, but with all the testing done and some very similar cars there should be some interesting info. For that matter, how about engine dyno vs chassis dyno? I know at least one engine (1989GTA I think) was wrung out before it was dropped into a chassis.

hey was Allen using his crazy exhaust termination boxes? did he ever get those functional?

would love to see how much $$$ it took each combination to achieve their results.. but i wont ask.. i can kinda guesstimate.

to you guys keeping it smog legal.. that in itself is a huge accomplishment.

Re: Dyno Results

My motor is the only one that has been on a engine dyno. Here are the transmissions.

Don 355 with a M6
Vince 360 with a M5 World Class
Allen 368 with a 4L60E
Troy 383 with a 700R4
Two other cars with dyno numbers in the 390+ range from previous dyno pulls.
Adrian 355 with a M6
Bill 350(stock lower) with a 700R4.
Way back,
Alex 408 with a M5. He had 403rwhp or so but needed an exhaust upgraded in the worst way. This car is now in Germany.

We had an LSx 6.0L car there with a 4L60E but to be fair I am not going to count it because he needs a good tune and his programmer could not make it. This is a recent install and he needs to correct a couple of items as is usual with that type of deal. Lets just say the car has a lot of potential.

"hey was Allen using his crazy exhaust termination boxes? did he ever get those functional"

Yep, and they worked as advertised. The mid range was super fat. More than I expected. The car made 400rwhp from 5250rpm up to the stop of the dyno pull at 6650rpm where is was around 420rwhp.

They're not crazy! They're science.

Man, you got that right! I have to admit that I have "disguised" Dougs long tubes, so I do not pass the visual test here in CA, but that will be remedied going forward. Considering I also have the biggest discplacement, I have been consistiently out-pulled by smaller engines with less cam and shortie headers.

Thanks! That's really pretty reasonable considering the opportunities it opens up!

Yes, but look how far you have come from your first dyno pull. You have added a ton of horsepower.

Re: Dyno Results

You guys should contact GM High Tech. They might do a tech aritcle about these envelope pushing advancements on this old technology. You all are actually are getting mild LS1 H/C numbers from a TPI. My hat is off to you guys.

I am going to put my new motor on the engine dyno. I'm doing it because I want to have the insurance that when it goes in my car, everything will be in proper working order. Other benefits are the builder will break in the motor, a rough hp rating and if something goes wrong its still at the shop.

Allen, do you still have the single plane manifold you used to dyno your motor? The shop where my motor is at only has a duel plane manifold. I would love to compare my motor to yours. I'm sure it wont come close but I still want to see what to work for.
