Hey Z28FAST1, what have you done to your car for a 11 second ride? That is some good numbers for street car naturally aspirated. Also is that with an automatic trans or a stick shift?

Just your average LS1 w/small cam, stock casting head(mild port job), long tubes, exhaust, cold air intake.
Built T56, Moser 12 bolt (currently 3.08 gears, switching to 3.42's or higher), Mickey Thompson ET streets. Oh and it should tip the scales at about 3300 lbs.
Averages 24-26 mpg on the highway and will have cold blowing A/C as soon as TPI Terror finishes wiring it up to my 4th gen dash.

Also if you do a 40 roll make sure to get a good video. I do that sometimes with my friend but we can never get a good video since we are driving our cars.

I don't really street race because the career I'm going into requires a spotless record. (Not that I haven't smoked a few vettes that pull up here and there, lol.) I'll consider letting TPI TERR borrow my car for a week if you want to put a few hundred dollars bills on your roll race or dig race. If you just want to try out your car, I'm sure his car will give you a good run.
Thanks for the call out though, I'll be running at LA Invasion. Not sure if you are running but we should surprise a lot of 4th gens and vettes out there

Man it sounds like the LA invasion will be a great event to attend to too bad for me I have never been to one yet, and plus I am still trying to fix my rear suspension on my camaro and just waiting what my new 350 will be putting on the wheels.
Oh well I guess I can wait another year, maybe by that time I will have my 400 HP at the wheels engine ready (hopefully, I can make it to that level on a CCC engine)

Man, it looks like our poor old 355 NA TPI cars don't stand a chance at the Invasion. You guys have some serious cars. Us NA TPI guys will do what we can this year playing 2nd fiddle and will have to wait and see what next year brings. At least we can see what times you guys are running and see if there is any hope at all.

Albeit a LS1 is a respectable motor, it is still a 13 second motor in a six speed Vette with alot of LS3 Vettes out there even quicker with lots of mild upgrades to them. They still are not rockets. I drove Soniques LS3 out the Palm Springs and back and it ain't nothing to boast about, and that puts down something like 430 flywheel hp. Fast for a smog engine, but not fast.

Hey Dean, the one car is looking to go 11.5, one is a 383LSX, not sure of modifications on the other. I don't think any of us are even close to that. I'm sure TPI TERRor did not pick that name for nothing. Maybe a low 12 pass might be in the cards for one of our TPI cars. You have to remember that for me I'm still running my old motor.

So let me get this straight....You will let TPI TERR drive YOUR car in a race against me, but only for a "few" hundred dollars? I am down for dropping a few bills on a race but I want YOU driving and we can even do it at the track if you want. If your sticker on your hood is the truth then I think I won't have any trouble taking some of your money lol. But on the other hand if you just wanna do a few friendly runs I am perfectly fine with that.
I don't know why you called ME specifically out lol, seems like you want to be the baddest car in the parking lot or something haha!! It's cool, if it makes you feel better, you can compare my 1/4 time at LA Invasion.

BTW, those LS3 vettes have active torque management(?) and are notorious for being restricted from the factory. A tune really wakes them up.

Too bad I was out of town for this. That's the most thirdgens I've ever seen in pictures in one spot aside from the nationals several years ago. There are some very nice cars out there. I am blown away by the paint on some of these rides.
I have the Z28 running about as good as a stock LB9 with a 2-ish inch exhaust can.
Would anyone be up for some driving in the future? By driving I mean hitting up the twisties @ 8/10ths or so. I'll have my suspension ready as soon as my konis get here (on back order ) in a few weeks.
Hey TT84Z5SPD,
Since you seem like you are game, we oughta line em up one of these days. My little v6 powered G body against your ride. Your car sounds pretty healthy . I'm up the 15 in Murrieta.

I do know how to somewhat trick those systems, you should see me with the factory reps in the AMG63's, I scare the hell out of them and walk away with them puzzled from all the tire squeal. Lots of double pulse trailbraking.
ps- My 68 vette dyno'ed at 540 rwhp 20 years ago at Traco in Thunder Alley. Its a SBC 327 the tachs 8500 rpms with a 40 lb flywheel. I sidestep the clutch at 7 grand and it stays at 7 grand. You will not get the $100 bill off the dashboars in the first two gears- and this is an old school iron head N/A motor with a 750Holley sporting 50cc pumps front and rear. This car also holds the Route 66 open header contest win in 2008. I eat Z06's

Oh and as far as the twisties go… I’m your Huckleberry
We need to do whatever we can to make sure that the LSX powered third gens cars are staged with the TPI powered cars. We’ve got some amazing representation on both sides which should make for some great racing and what I can only imagine to be a ton of photo finishes. Bring some extra cash boys because side bets are going to be jumping off left and right.

These Motorgen guys almost always incorporate some twisties in their get togethers, This one starts in Elsinore then over the Ortega and a late dinner at Fuddruckers in Lake Forest.

"Oretega Hwy route 74 was close last night due to a fatal motorcycle accident. According to witnesses, Francis Gardner 44 of Lake Elsinore was traveling at a high rate of speed on his motorcycle when he crossed the double yellow line and struck a Westbound pickup headon. The 40 year old man from Orange steered abruptly off the right shoulder of the road, said Hwy Patrol, but could not avoid the head on impact that killed Gardner.
Francis Gardner was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:41 pm"
I was that 40 year old man from Orange and Vetruck was the pickup.
I'll pass.

I'll pass.

"We need to do whatever we can to make sure that the LSX powered third gens cars are staged with the TPI powered cars."
We all know that moded TPI cars are all finished powerwise at 5500rpm. Also short tube headers are hardly any better than factory iron manifolds for our TPI cars. Long tube headers is where it is at. The proof is on this site in the many posts and on other car sites by posters who know these things. One would be just throwing their money away betting on a TPI car. You would have to give odds and hope the LSX car misses a shift or spins off the line.

The highly modified ‘TPI’ cars today have simply evolved. More power through efficiency in induction & exhaust all of which we can thank Jerry, Don, Kevin, and to certain degree you, for through research, development, and implementation. If the cars I’m thinking of cant get around a third gen with a factory LSX motor under the hood then perhaps they should find a driver that can. LOL!
I’ve been around this stuff way too long to buy into the ‘little TPI that couldn’t’ business. If Jimmy and I were doing it years ago, I’m confident that there’s a select few in this group that can too

I think they are a "little" more than factory. I agree if they were stock. However over 400+rwhp and looking to do a 11.5 time slip with another having a 383 stroker does not sound stock to me. Not sure of the mods on TPI TERR's car.

Re: Los Angeles 3rd Gen F Body Meet Sunday April 25th, 2010 @ 2PM
I think what was best about my 1985 Z28 running in the 12's was that it was done with all bolt on parts that were easily accessible to everyone with a Summit catalog. Nothing was custom made or a one-off. The only modified part was that I port matched and cleaned up the Accel Superam using a dremel tool. Today I would have had it extrude honed. I believe Mike and I were the first ones to run 12's at Fontana and it took years (3-4) for the rest of the gang to catch up and only after multiple heads/cam/shortblock changes and the corresponding influx of cash, capitol, time, and effort to just reach were we were years earlier.
Today, most of the fastest TPI cars have one-off intakes, one-off intake manifolds, custom ground cams with secret timing events, custom professionally ported heads, purpose built shortblocks, custom one-off complete 3.5" to 4.0" exhaust form the heads to the tailpipes, custom track-only tunes with VE and timing tables for high-octane (non-pump) gas, and are tuned using the latest real time tools that were available to me back then. Such is progress. Except for Vincent, I don't know that any of the fast "TPI-based" even leave OC and when they do it is to a racetrack usually with a support truck in the convoy.
It is possible with the right driving to get a TPI into the 12's. Below is the route I took:
LO3 shortblock - stock, from a GM crate engine
AFR 195 heads - box-stock
Accell Superram intake - port-matched w/ casting roughness removed from ports
Lingenfelter 219 cam (stock)
Roller tip rockers (not full roller!)
1 5/8 SLP headers (stock)
Flowmaster 3" exhaust (stock)
T-56 6-speed
3.42 gears 10-bolt rear end
M/T ET street radials
91 octane pump gas
K&N air filters
everyday tune (not a track-specific tune)
I believe Vincent and I were the only ones who really did just show up and change our tires and run what we had the other 6 days of the week. Jerry was always experimenting and had something new to test. Don and Kevin would get to the track low on gas and put a special mix of high octane gas to use with their track-only tuned PROMs, let alone the custom one-off intake manifold or exhaust.
Of all the cars nowadays I think if you want to look and a car and try to replicate it with parts that are available to everybody and expect to get similar results it would have to be Vincents. Aside from the head porting job and custom ground cam (almost catalog-spec) most of what he has is bolt-on what is available to everybody for being such a fast car.

"most of what he has is bolt-on what is available to everybody for being such a fast car."
Vincent has done well and will be a big factor at the Invasion. However he has had more work done than what you have indicated and for good reason. The reason being most everyone has given up on TPI years ago and for us to progress with it we have to modify what is available in both the used and after market. Vincent has done that.
BBK developed a product a few years ago but it has not seen the light of day. From the looks of it, it will not push the envelope very far. There is no more interest from the manufacturors in TPI. Bottom line is that is the reason that we have "one" off parts. However anyone can duplicate them because what we have done has been well documented on this forum. It is all about increasing the air flow.

Sounds like it will be a lot of fun at the Invasion and I'm looking forward to meeting you guys. I'm also fully prepared to have my head handed to me. You are right in that technology moves on. Hopefully our TPI cars are not to far behind. On the whole I think we will give the 4th gen cars a hard time. On the LS1 forum they are talking about bringing enough "bottles".
Edit: I did some research and I see that TPI TERR has a nitrous setup. Not sure what else.
