Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?
I make it a point to never exceed the posted speed limit, so with that said 65MPH would have to be the absolute fastest I have taken my car.

The fastest third gen I know of is Kevin White he ran the pony express 50 in 2000 and had a time of 17:06.724 or 180.925mph for the 50 miles he was clocked in the Radar traps at 206mph, 201mph and 201mph on that day.

There's no speed limit in intersections, right?
So if I'm at a stop light and the sign up ahead says 50, I can be doing 50 when my wheels touch the ground again?

get a book find ur vss wire (vehicle speed sensor) behind ur dash put a troggle switch on it.. flip the switch when u wanna go faster then the limit and flip it back off to keep the check engine light from comming on. really easy thats how i have mine setup

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?
well, one of these days i would like to get out to utah and do the silver state challenge. especially with the new motor. i once got a ticket on I-5 near Aneheim at 2 am for 100+ in a 65. (was doing 140) ticket cost 350 but only got 1 point since i took the driver course available. two weeks later got a 79 in a 65 and got 2 points....????? i will keep it under 140 from now on. i like my money in my pocket and my car in my garage.
However, Utah does have the salt flats and plenty of other
"places" you can stretch your cars' legs.

Oh, sorry, I didnt read.
Then you have me do a custom chip for your car that removes the speed limiter and gives you more power and better gas mileage.

I can do customs chips. Email me or PM me for details.
You can get a new 140 MPH dash and swap it in. I think its a direct swap.

84 Firebird - 124 with proof. My advice, dont go seeking proof.
I dunno what I had my 85 TA up to, speedo only went to 85. The 86 the fastest I had it was 130, same day it was doing almost 140 for a friend. Car hates me. Had my brand F to 160+, scary in that rusted bent up POS. The 89 vert I've hit 140, it'll go faster than that but I dont know how much.

Yes swapping the dash speedo will be fine. The speedo will still be accurate because its the plastic gears in the trans that affect it.

Umm...I am not going to lie but I have 2.74 gears 355ci engine and I tried to push it hard. I got to 105 yesterday I think, speedometer is only 85mph. Didn't want to push it any harder than that, my engine only has 7k miles and tranny has 17k. But it seemed like the engine didn't want to keep pulling, or I didn't want it to haha. But then I started to smell something, idk what it was though. Anyway I would like to at least hit 110 without feeling like an idiot.

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?
I've gotten mine to 115mph a few times and then hit the limiter. That should be taken care of when I get my EBL . In my 20's one night I took my mom's 86 vette up to 130mph. Probably one the stupider things I've done when I was younger. It was at night on an empty two lane road and at that speed by the time you see what the light is shining on you are already past it. All it would have taken was an animal running out in front or a pothole and I would have probably wiped it out.

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?
I will factually say you are full of sh*t .
I had the most modified 2.8 V6 car seen (were talking COMPLETERLY MODIFIED EVERYTHING) and it would only reach 138 downhill with the wind behind it. I had 30k invested into this car. You are not going to do over 120 even downhill.

The spring after my buddy got his 89 RS 2.8V6 T5 we had it on the highway at midnight. We had the needle pointing straight down and plenty left in her. Speedo stopped at 125 in that car. I'll admit we were going down hill, but it was a gentle hill. Of course we got nailed for it. We slowed down to make the turn coming up and that's when a car came flying up behind us and the lights came on. When the cop came up to the window, the first words out of his mouth were "If you hadn't slowed down, I never woulda caught you."
We also used that Camaro to test the rev limiter in my mom's 94 Lumina Sedan. That car topped out at 115 - not too shabby for a family car.
My 92 RS with the 3.1 and T5 I hit 100 in last summer, but let off cause it started shaking pretty good. With the new engine and front suspension, I plan on trying again this summer.

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?
lol ludicrous speed. My girl coming home one night on the 105 pegged the speedo at 85. The CHP told her she was doing 100 plus, but i guess seeing as how the CHP was a woman she gave my girl a ticket for doing 80 plus. yeah i try that and i get screwed lol.

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?
Well,
I don't live in SoCal anymore, but when I did, I made it from San Francisco to Lomita, in 5 and a half hours, stopping at the gas station for 10 minutes, stopping at Micky Ds for 20 minutes, and dropping off the old girlfriend in Lawndale, then going home.
Uh, I did race a 300ZX twin turbo, and walked away from him.
Not bad for a little six banger, huh?
I don't want to post how fast I was going, as I don't want anything coming back to me.
George

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?
It was a federal law for a while in this country that you couldn't install a speedometer that read beyond 85 mph. That's why the old Mustang SVO had a 160 mph speedo, but the numbers stopped at 85. The hash marks and all were there for the rest of the speeds, they just weren't numbered. It was a fun way to take advantage of a loop hole in the law (they didn't specifically prohibit that, so it worked for Ford).

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?
I just remembered this sad time. In 1985 I was stationed on an icebreaker in Halifax Nova Scotia when my older brother passed away. Halifax was almost exactly 1000 miles from home. When I got the news I packed my stuff and headed home in my 1984 Z28 (305 auto). 13 and a half hours later I was home. Taking only a couple fuel stops I think I averaged about 75 MPH. Avg speed limit at the time was 50 mph. Quickest portion of the ride was from Quebec City to Montreal when I got behind a Porsche 944 Turbo along the south shore of the St. Lawrence River where we cruised at about 100 steady most of the way.
A couple of years later I was stationed in Thunder Bay Ontario. A couple of times I took the IROC up there (we worked month on month off). One trip home I took the northern route home (Hwy 11) and got two speeding tickets in the same day about 50 miles apart. The second cop knew I was coming. His radio travelled faster than my IROC. The speed limit was 80 KPH (50 MPH) and first stop was 125 KPH in an 80 but he let me off with a minimum ticket, think it was about $100 and the second was about 115 in an 80. Same fine. Had to go for an interview and tell this pencil neck bureaucrat why I deserved to keep my license!

I have an 87 mech. dash in my 91 body. w/ 3.42 gear I buried the speedo at 145 in 3rd gear at 6300rpm.
With 3.73 hit 135 in 3rd over 6000 rpm and had to slow down, it's got more. Took out a Z06 vette on Power tour uphill passed him at 125 in 3rd.I love these cars.....
