The Federal EPA and Calif AIR and So Cal AQMD state what type of gas you get and what additives the oil companies are allowed to add.

Wait till next year it will get worse since the voters in CA approved the dumb global warming bill

Stupidity par excellance. The voters in this state are making me sick and dragging me down with them. Gotta seriously think of moving out.

Re: Which gas station has the best quality gas

Just FYI, the oil companies contract with each other to supply product from their refineries in different geographic areas. The additives are somewhat different depending on "brand", but they are refined the same way from the same raw product in the same cracking towers. When we did a dyno test with different pump fuels on a GSXR 600 a few years back, we were surprised to find that the ARCO gas consistently made the most peak power.

Re: Which gas station has the best quality gas

Here, and in many other areas, we have to use summer blend and winter blend. I may have this backwards, but winter blend has more ethanol to burn faster in the cold air, it also evaporates faster so in older vehicles without a "closed" fuel system over a weekend most of the "fuel" will evaporate from a carb.
And any fuel test done 3 years ago is not indicative of currant fuels we get here today.

Re: Which gas station has the best quality gas

well i heard that not all oil refineries are the same like valero for instance, we all know that it belongs to Hugo Chavez, and his stuff is refined different, not saying that its better, but different, same goes for shell. haha but I'm surprised a few years ago ARCO was up there. ARCO sucks if you ask me., well bad enough for me to notice a difference.

Re: Which gas station has the best quality gas

I don't know about gas suppliers, but I did see something that made me vow to never buy gas at one particular station. I looked out my apartment window one morning and watched the guy using a calibrated wooden stick to measure gas levels in the underground tanks. Before he put it in each tank, he poured Comet abrasive cleaner all up and down the stick. I guess that the idea was to use a powder to make it easier to see how high the liquid was, but I thought about all that abrasive powder accumulating in that tank and eventually going into my cars. I have no idea how common this practice is (was?) but I definitely never bought gas at that place!

Re: Which gas station has the best quality gas

well you guys may like it out here. Gas is 93oct @ $2 a gal. $1.43 for reg. for the daily drivers and a abundunce of race gas available. I've said before the tracks are open for T&T and street legal drags almost every week during the racing season Feb-November. Thats twice a week!
No smog check required either. By the way for those So_Cal people who remember me. The Camaro is alive and well!

Its warmer out here, and there's a lot more to do here.

But everyone else is out doing it too so you have to push your way thru them.

If Osamas appointees, who embrace the global warming BS, get their way you better prepare for smog checks.

Re: Which gas station has the best quality gas

For me;
1. Chevron or Shell
2. 76
3. Alliance - (this company also sells 102 octane at the pump here in Southern California).

None of my engines seem to run very well on Arco gas.
