There's a pretty awesome Mexican joint by me if you guys are up for a Canyon cruise up to Silverado/Trabuco.

How about eating at Universal City Walk and then going to the NASCAR silicon speedway?

Re: December 13th Dinner Suggestions
Do you think maybe we should decide based on cuisine? There's a few good German restaurants in the area I've come to discover, such as Jaegerhaus in Anaheim.
If we base it on venue, then places like Citywalk or maybe Huntington Pier might suit us. I really enjoyed our cruise to Huntington pier a few years back.
Alternatively, we can eat at the new Disctrict Center in Irvine and afterwards check out K1 indoor kart-racing down the street for $25 a pop:

We ate at the BBQ restaurant there. Tustin district, crowded, loud, expensive ~$15 BBQ ham sandwich.

City of Tustin owns the land The District is sitting on.
Only issue I see with Citywalk is that every time I've been there its been extremely busy. Maybe with the economy meltdown it wont be, but I dunno. Do they validate? Otherwise you pay to park too.

They have lots of parking, but I think they did a ****-poor job of ingress/egress planning for that center. I've been meaning to try the food at Auld's Irish Pub or JT Schmid's Brewery in that center though.

The roads around the site are far from done. Only thing I think they should have done is provide access to Jamboree, but with that being basically a highway there... I understand.

Kinda bringing this post back to the top.
I know of a couple of good non-chain restaurants, but their parking is limited.
Anyone golf, maybe a Country club restaurant they have lots of parking.
We could all sneak into a hotel that has free breakfasts for guests.

How about a San Diego cruise and ending up at Barona Casino for dinner and gambling?

If I'm not mistaken, the Silicon Speedway is not there anymore. I work down the corner at the NBC Universal high rise and go up there for lunch evey now and then. I went couple weeks ago and didn't see it. I think there was some candy shop there now.

Re: December 13th Dinner Suggestions
Barona sounds good to me. Do we need to make a reservation, or do they have enough capacity to serve us without reservations? If we need reservations, we should get them in soon. I'm not sure how many corporate functions are set up in Indian casinos. Maybe we could actually get some of our San Diego folks to join us for the dinner.

Re: December 13th Dinner Suggestions
I just found out myself that you dont have to be 21 to gamble at Barona.
http://www.barona.com/casino.cfm
So does this sound like a good idea? I'll have to call them, and then set up a cruise route.

It sounds goosd to me, Kevin. What was the name of the Casino where we ate dinner after the last Anza-Borrego cruise? That might also be a good choice if the Barona is booked.

Re: December 13th Dinner Suggestions
i think this is pretty sweet. the roads to barona are all curvey throughout canyons type, its a nice drive and a good place for a cruise. OH did anyone of you guys knew that they have a 1/8th mile track there?
theres only 2 in san diego and that is the best one from what ive been told. its just down the road from the casino.
i just hope im all done with my swap by the time this occurs.

Re: December 13th Dinner Suggestions
Next question: where exactly would we eat at the casino? The Barona Casino Web site lists only 3 places that sound like they might work —
1) Barona Oaks Steakhouse – Intimate and sophisticated atmosphere, elegant dinner-only venue. That rules this group out.
2) Ranch House Buffet — All-you-can-eat dining options at an incredible value. Might work provided the seating situation works.
3) Sage Café — Comfortable indoor and conservatory seating providing panoramic views of the beautiful valley and award-winning golf course. Casual dining venue provides a relaxed atmosphere and spectacular California cuisine. Sounds like the best option IMHO.
After that, it's the Food Court.
I have to say, I'm not crazy about the idea of trekking down to San Diego just for dinner. There are places that are closer for everyone. What about something at the Irvine Spectrum?

Re: December 13th Dinner Suggestions
Most places at the Irvine spectrum dont take reservations, and for a group of 20+ they charge more and will probably require a deposit and pre selected dinner.
Or the food court.
If you are gonna do the buffet thing, I would suggest Phillipies across from Union Station. But the parking is limited and very narrow spaces. But its been there since the 40's.

That would put you on Julie's lap. I think she is sitting next to Alex
On top of Julie and next to Alex.

Re: December 13th Dinner Suggestions
That presents another aspect of the seating situation. Would it be possible to reserve a large table or two large tables for the group in a casino filled with guests?

Bret, its not "just for dinner." We're going to make it a cruise on the way there, too. Stop hiding out in the valley and come on out. Gas prices are coming down now, too.
I want to make this an afternoon thing, leaving Don's shop around 2pm or so, cruising down there on the backroads, and eating early, around 5pm. Then we can either stay and gamble or go home early.

Re: December 13th Dinner Suggestions
I'm wondering if it would be better to leave a little earlier, say right after lunch from Don's shop about 12:30 or 1:00 with the idea of eating dinner around 4:00 or 4:30. How crowded are the casino restaraunts at 5:00 pm? Is it like Disneyland where the various food venues are crowded at 5:00, but relatively uncrowded at 4:00pm or after 7:00pm?

Re: December 13th Dinner Suggestions
Your posts are visible. In my opinion, I don't care about a track day combined with the dinner. The dinner is for guys and gals to bring spouses, g/f's or b/f's. My wife enjoys a drive in the country and dinner, she would not be interrested in going to a race track.

Re: December 13th Dinner Suggestions
We are one month away today. Have we made a decision and made reservations anywhere? At this late date we may be relegated to one of the Indian casinos out in the boonies if they have room for us. I suspect that any local restaurant that has a banquet room is already booked.

Re: December 13th Dinner Suggestions
My turn… I think Barona is a great idea. It’s so far from the norm of what we have done over the past years that it seriously needs to be considered as a viable option. Now based on what I have been reading, it seems like the majority is in favor of making the trek in addition to accruing the additional expenses of a trip down south. So now we and Kevin I will be more than happy to you with any of this need to get not only make sure we can get reservation, find a restaurant within the facility that can accommodate our group, and a cost breakdown per person, but most importantly a final count on who is for and who is against making the trip to Barona. I will also check in to getting a block of rooms for anyone that would like to stay as a result of getting their *** handed to them by a blackjack dealer or in my case a lukewarm bottle of Grey Goose.
We should poll this Kevin.
Oh and just so you know… Allen, Tom, Alex, and Julie will all be sitting on MY lap so there!

BTW, we probably wont be making the trip, have some other irons in the fire right now.
I guess they keep changing the ads at the bottom, there was one for a dinner cruise on a boat only $170/per.

Barona
I went over some options with the event coordinator at Barona this morning. The buffet is an option, however on the day they can’t guarantee that we will be able to sit together. I’m waiting for information regarding their banquet facilities and pricing. As soon as I get it, I will put it up.
