2009 Nissan GTR Encounter

You know, I wasn’t going to post this because I really didn't think anyone would believe it. Hell I can’t believe it myself and I was there!

After my gf and I left the meeting last night, as we were merging onto the freeway I noticed a paper plate Nissan GTR in the number one lane traveling at an extremely high rate of speed. I increased speed not to attempt to play with the car but to show my gf the Japanese supercar.

Traffic was pretty heavy so I was able to catch up to him quickly because he had gotten held up. Once next to him, I gave him thumbs up as I have always had a genuine affinity for the lineage of the Skyline and to show that I wasn’t attempting to lure him into any type of speed contest. I just wanted to get close enough to appreciate the sound and road manor of the car.

Well my kind gesture was met with the return of a middle finger, down shift, and blip of the throttle. I tightened my gf’s seat belt as I explained that this wasn’t going to last long because as soon as traffic opened up, she was going to get a first and look at what a 480hp super car looked, felt, and sounded like.

We played cat and mouse through traffic for a while until it opened up, and sure enough… the rapidly fading sound of rattling air boxes, exhaust, and squeal of boost filled the space of where the car once was. At this point I was happy just to have played with a GTR. Well this S.O.B. was waiting for me in the slow lane approaching the 110 to 91 transition ramp. I told my gf to hold on because if I was ever going to get this clown, it was going to be on this ramp.

I flashed the GTR to let him know that I was coming in hot and wanted to play. He matched my speed as we entered the ramp which was just under a buck, I was on the outside and he was on the inside.

Long story short, he lifted and I didn’t. I had 3 cars on him as we exploded off the ramp. I had to fight like hell to stay in front of him through traffic but did until just before 710 where it opened back up. I shut down because it would have just pointless to attempt to take this animal on straight line. The cat in the GTR pulls up next to me, smiles, nods, and explodes onto the 710.

Moral of the story, a lowly little third gen held its own against the badest thing to come out of Japan since bowl cut.

...and yes, this guy could drive.

Gotta love these Jap car makers that offer race cars to the public then dont warranty them when you "drive" the car.

I dont believe the Vette has those limitations.

He and his wife split up last year. His new woman is almost as dirty as he is, so she gets along great with us.

Yeah, after 14+ years… it was time. We are still really good friends and plan on keeping it that way.

Kevin, you wouldn’t know dirty if it were dripping off of your chin. [edited for cleanliness]

Re: 2009 Nissan GTR Encounter

God forbid you even come across a so called Vetruck on a freeway overpass................. Its a flash of silver and a thundering roar as it 4 wheel drifts @ 100. I come out of the 22E to 55N at a buck8 the other night just laid out and taugnt around the outside of a C6. I saw him heading into it about 100 yrds in front of me at what he thought was an aggresive clip....as I crested him on exit. Thing that sucks is my rears 295-45-19's are 6 months old and already wasted- they ain't cheap

And as for the ex, be lucky youa re getting along. My Divorce is going on 10 months and just getting started, and the Camaro has been gone- but I have been stuck with all her other crap in the house- I keep telling her I will trade her- thats the deal (I really could give a damn about the car, she thinks I do though- I built it eventually to just give to my Daughter whos almost 17)

Re: 2009 Nissan GTR Encounter

Once from the eb 22 to the nb 5 a triumph (sp) sports car thought he was fast, he almost wrecked when a 57 star chief conv blew by him.

The best one was I was late to work one am and racing down Katella following a motorcycle in the unmarked curb lane. He was probably 5-6 cars in front of me when we approached a intersection with a car turning right was waiting for pedestrians and had most of the curb lane blocked. He about fell off the bike when he looked back shortly after and I was still right there.
What he missed was the 1.5 car length break in the #2 lane as I approached the stopped car, quick move left then back to right. That titty pink Pontiac surprised a lot of people. Brakes only lasted about 5K and drums about 10K.

Re: 2009 Nissan GTR Encounter

Whoops, I ment spank "on" it.- DId I forget to mention I was driving the Ferrari? I drove it for about 45mins and did not want to get out. All I can say is if I were wealthy, I would be in jail from traffic infractions. This baby in sport mode and paddle shifters (No clutch pedal) is a video game come true. Notice the hair? Yeah I had fun up over 150 in this badboy on the 73fwy tonight.-got *****, I did. I don;t think the cop could catch me if he saw me.

Most expensive car I have driven to date at a new retail of almost 300K. It actually pushed a tad through Irvine Blvd(by the back bay) going throught hose twisties at upwards of 70. Felt light on the nose like the old Pantera's but without the nose lifting torque and bobble. This thing can not be driven under 30 comfortably. But I have to say, I serious say my old Camaro will out handle it, but not out power it at 9,000rpm sequential shifts without lifting the friggin pedal.

Re: 2009 Nissan GTR Encounter

Cool, closest thing to a sports car I ever drove was a vette and RX7.

My neighbor recently drove one of those new twin turbo Bentleys. Says it smokes the tires thru the gears until you lift. Same thing paddle shifters 7 gears.

Re: 2009 Nissan GTR Encounter

Turns out that night was a stealth interveiw on my discipline and skills behind the car. I was just asked yesterday to accompany him to Laguna Seca Ferrari Challange weekend in Feb 20-22, 2009 Where he is having the car trailered up by Ferrari and I get to tinker with it for him- my weekend will be paid for- THENNNNN- I get to race it in one of the three 20 lap events that Sunday. Michael will race the other two.

Several years back Michael arrange for he and I to meet Joe Granitelli up at Willow Springs in March 1999 and I was able to drive one of Joe's Formula Fords very restricted and paced behind Michael and Joe- Granitelli had 4 of them in his 18 wheeler, one was his personal car and the other three he owned simply for friends to drive. Funny thing on the dashes were the large red markes on the tachs and the note on all three saying "Do not pass this mark stupid"
