Who will be the first to have a set of these?

This is what great R&D will do, and just think of the impact on existing technology:

a... no more air valves

a... no more air compressors at gas stations

a... no more repair kits

SCAN DOWN & SEE.

This is an actual picture taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin. It will be awhile before they are available to the automotive industry.

Yikes! I thought that was a cutaway picture.

I wonder how it handles, it looks kinda flimsey, but then again I don't know how our current tires stay on the rim.

They supposedly handle and ride better than an air filled tire.

Saw that a while ago. Hadn't heard much about it recently. I suspect the finished product will have sidewalls for those that might be concerned.

Cool stuff.

It just looks too different, and a lot of people don't like change no matter how good it may be, I think it's going to need a sidewall to sell.

And how will you keep crap out of it and throwing off the balance?

I'm sure they will have sidewalls to keep the mud and snow out before they go on sale to the public. I suspect the pictures are there to illustrate the new technology and show people that there is a difference between this technology and what has gone before. If these tires work as well as pneumatic tires with no downside, I don't think they'll have any problem selling them.

the only problem with them will be the cost.. and the fact that you will have to gic up your nice wheels... because that is all one piece (not literally but it is all attached) so that center part is part of the tire.. thats why it is called a Tweel? or something like that.. it is both the tire and the wheel as one piece.

Currently available for "low speed" use. Bobcats, Segways ...etc.

According to Michelin we have 10 to 15 years to wait on this technology. I remember reading about it a year or two ago.
