My problem with Chinese products.
Kevin will probably lock this, but it is car related.
You can read the full article in the Aug 2005 Car and Driver, here are highlights.
Jimmy Yee owns a Chinese company that makes 1/18 and 1/43 scale model cars, a million of them a year, which retail for $60 to $120 each. He has 3500 employees that he feeds and houses in 500 sq ft dormitory rooms 20 to a room. He's complaining that his employee costs have risen 30% over the last decade, from about $60.00 per month per employee to about $90.00 per month. His managers and engineers make $1000.00 to $2000.00 per month.
He imports all raw materials duty fee if he exports everything he makes, if he fails to export he is heavly fined. The locals must reimport the cars and pay a heavy tariff to do so, so the cars are very expensive in China.
No wonder we cannot compete in the world market of manufacturing.
