Ron, I saw that class and was kindof thinking that myself that it would work better as for any modifications being legal, AND most of all its AFTER LUNCH so I will be awake. I hate getting up early. I hate running ESP because technically I am illegal with suspension mods even though I don't belong with the V6 being underclassed (is how Craig Angel put it last time- told me I didn't belong and I'd get eaten alive in that class. Oh how I loved to **** him off and prove him wrong once again) I may even work this time out unless he has another wiseass comment towards me

"Calif Street Mod" class it is then.

Thes story goes (for those that don't know Craig Angel)he disliked me from the get go cause I was yes technically a punk kid in a sponsored Vette that was kicking everyones butt ( A Canaidian Camera crew even interviewed and filmed us and we were on a National TV program back in '91- I have the demo tape of the footage that aired). He tried to pinpoint me out last at an event in the trophydash car by listing me to run last (with his buddies running first of about 12 people in the funky Hyundia POS-knowing that by the time my turn came last I'd surely be on steel belt. Sure enough he tried to coax me into running the car with belt showing on the traction edges and then try and demand I change the tires afterwards since I was last. I told him to stuff his F... (well, can't say that here) and I arrogantly walked away without driving it and never ever opted to drive it again even though I was supposed to.

2 years ago, I hadn't seen him for 10+years, but the crap started right away again when he recognized me at sign-in. His kingdom and his rules, but I do as little as I will need to. Ohhh Politics.

So when/how do we get our class letters and numbers assigned? Do I need to contact Solo 2 now or is it handled the morning of the event?

Otherwise, everything sounds good. CSM it is.

So what time do we all want to meet up at the track?

Bret, they issue you temporary numbers at registration. You simply tape them on either sides of your vehicle. If I make it, I will still be in ESP.

I will plan on being there at 9 - 9:30AM so I can register and tech between watching George run in ESP in the second group. I worry about walking the course at lunch because CSM runs last group. I'll have a roll of blue painters tape so we can mark numbers on the cars. I have to see if my other helmet is a Snell 90, I know my good older one is not and they rejected me last time(More political BS, like as if I am in more danger in a car with a pre snell 90 helmet than a course worker standing on the track with nothing to protect them. No one has common sense anymore)

Watch it Dean. I'm on the SCCA Solo Safety Committee and it's not politcal BS. Helmet manufactuers say the life time for a helmet is 3 years. Most real racing groups mandate that you get a new helmet every year as the helmet starts breaking down. Both the liner and shell degrade and after 15 years isn't much more of protection than beanie cap. Ever seen what happens when a old helmet hits the roof or a roll bar?
Well that's why we enforce these rules. Anybody that spends 1000's of dollars on their shouldn't complain about speading a couple hundred on a new helmet.

edit to add

Dean you better hope nobody remembers you as you didn't work your work group the same time you ran.

Do you really think that people would hold something like not working a event against someone after several years? Opps what am I saying. I KNOW what kind of people they are. I'll be lucky to get past the front gate with my past .

We'll I had an unexpected emergency that day and had to go. Won't happen this time. Besides, Brian Chemelewski is the Cheif safety steward and our friendship goes back 25years. I DNW'ed that year and was mandated by the ruleboook to be penalized one year. Its been over two years now.

As for the helmet thing again- I have a completely factory interior and drive this car legally faster on surface streets and freeways than the speeds I will be obtaining out on the course AND I have no traffic on course. A well made older helmet is better than a cheeply made new one- regardless of Snell rating- it politics and sales. If the helmet is well taken care of, it does not deteriorate. If this were the case, my fiberglass Vette would have cracked apart and disenigrated by now. But rules are rules so I will have to buy another perfectly good helmet. I don't buy $10 helmets because I do not have a $10 head.

PS- I am going over to pick up the Vette tonight to bring it home. I have to go through the whole car and especially fix the RR trailing arm spherical mount cup that pops colapsed somehow driving it to carshows. Its getting slop onright hand turns, something still doesn't feel right though he claims to have fixed it, I have to see what he did to it and how he fixed it. I would like to get both cars out there that day so I can at least have some fun on some racing tires and HP.

It may have something to do with insurance and SCCA regulations (lawyers, litigation and crap).

The helmet expiration dates have always confused me.
The helmets are 3 to 5 layers of fiberglass.

My 26ft vette powered off shore cruiser (55mph), is about 5 layers of fiberglass and it doesnt have a expiration date. It has stress cracks but no one says I can't put it in the water.

I think its just a mfg and ins scam.

Well, I discovered today while working on the GTA that I have a seriously corded right front tire. It's showing threads around the entire inside edge of the tread.

These tires are done. No way I can drive to Fontana on them, let alone auto-x. Now I've got to decide if I want to bust out the plastic and pop for new tires.

I seriously want to attend the auto-x so it probably won't take much to make up my mind.

You'll need tires sometime whether its now or later you decide to drive it. It would be nice to have a good group of us out there together to make the day more spirited, was looking forward to your attendance. Hope you can make it Brett.

Bret,

Auto-x'ing would be a wonderful opportunity to break those new tires in!

Okay, I made the call to America's Tire and ordered up a set of BFG KDW tires. They should arrive this week, which means I should have them on the car on Saturday.

Wow, I have changed my radiator several dozen times, maybe even hundreds, and never have I needed to put my car up on jackstands in all four corners. I'm surprised the wheels are still on the car. Looks like you are doing some major work trying to get your grocery getter with the 2-piece front rotors, carbon-fiber driveshaft, and numerous custom tweaks up to snuff to go up against the Grey Goose. Since your "wife's car" will be out of commision what does she drive when you are doiing your customizing for weeks at a time? Now what I can't understand is if you're afraid to park your car in a dealerships parking lot, then how do you rest easy when she's getting groceries at Albertsons or shopping for you at WalMart?

Well you see here James, It is a V6 and I have a V8 radiator going into it with the hoses on the opposite sides. I am routing the new dual fans into place. I am changing the fluids on the car (all of them since I am doing maintenace) I have an exhaust rattle coming from the catalytic convertor, I have discovered that the rear pinon seal is dipping, I have to drop the trans down a little so I can reach on top of it to cleanly route the wiring from the console to the motor so I can hook up the fuel pressure gauge. I need to pull the plenum and change the fuel block to the one tapped with the sender on it. The wife drives the ElCamino or my truck when here car is down for a few days. Did I answer all you questions to your satisfaction mother dear?

Oh yes, The wife is 6 ft and would kick the sh*t out of you if she caught you touching her car in the parking lot of Walmart.

Takes time cleaning crap and making brackets and such. It is manditory to have to get underneath the nose of the car to route the lower solid stainless steel radiator hose. easier to drain the coolant install of letting it go all over the driveway like I am sure you do James when you work on your radiators. I am also very tall and this car is very low so it is much less backbreaking to get the car up to my height to work in the engine bay. I had to even drop the idler arm off to bend and route the rad hose.

Use common sense before you post your next insults James.

Where are the insults?

You've never seen me work on any of my cars, otherwise you would know how clean I keep the area...a little obsessive/compulsiveness wrapped up with some **** rententiveness. Now you are telling me how I do things when you have no clue...really no clue at all...and very wrong at that.

I would touch you V6 camaro. Where did I say anything closely resembling that I would?

I guess if it isn't you threatening to beat me up, you threaten your wife to beat me up. Ha!

in-sult' : behave rudely to; offend

Why are you nosing into my person business as to how and why my wife's car is sitting in the picture above? You are intentionally stirring the pot. 1)I have stated I have nothing to hide. 2)Have have stated I have a few things that needed attending to that I have put off due to being very busy in life. This car does not comsume the majority of my free time, yet it does need some maintenace and I would also like to try and get the adj prop vale into the car before the event but I doubt that will happen in time. If I can find time by the end of this week to try and position it and have TMR make up some braided lines to run it up over the trans then I'll be set. I would like to try and do it when I service the trans and route the Fuel pressure gauge.

As for you "insulting" me. You have come in here calling me out as if I am hiding modifications and I am nervously trying to prep this Camaro every last waking moment just to race Mike. It has been up on stands for two days and I have been home for about a 1/2 day of those so far (it will probably be up there on stands through Friday because I have to work on something(business wise) unexpectedly but I can't pass up the opportunity. Understandably, my wife does not like being without her ca. She can not drive the Vette (not that I stop her, its the skill and strength level needed to drive it especially in stop and go traffic, it makes her very uncomfortable and nervous), the Mini does not run (it is cut apart and being altered-a five year project), The ElCamino is left where we store the Vette so I could swap and bring the Vette home, so it leaves me with one vehicle right now that is streetable- My truck- thats what the wife is in right now and does not like it. So this "project" on the Camaro is not taking "weeks" my friend like you think I am secretly trying to beat the two of you- again, don't insult me please. I have
no secret weapons.

James, please do me a favor, Lets get along. Lets go out to the track, lets be civil, lets leave friends, lets enjoy ourselves- Please- Is that a deal?

Ron stated to me last weekend something that has cracked me up, but also made me think. He told me to my face in all honestly that I am nothing like he thought I was from my typing. When we first meet in person and I came over to his house, he was very skeptical and kindof on the cautious defence not meeting me yet. Since we know many people in common, he took a shot (his words somewhat). I think I can speak for him now that he knows me fairly well that I am nothing like how I guess I come across here typing- I need to work on that- I can't type, and I can't type expression. I guess I sound blunt and to the point. All I can say is I am not a hothead, yet I shoot from the hip. I do speak my mind, and respect others that do so also- I can not stand political correctness.

I guess I have to try and write novels on here to correctly express my exact emotions and post more of those smilely things

You will have plenty of opportunity at the track to look at, around underneath, and inside the Camaro to see I have nothing to hide.

i have been taking I think it was Russ' advice that when something get out of control in a post, close it and don't go back. I have been following this advice and have not been banned for a while. One happened a little while back on the suspension board. I editted out my posts like I had never been there and gracefully bowed out after someone attack me and called me a dumbass- and I am still here having fun and not banned under that RTFC name. I am learning typing skills

BFG KDW tires are on and I installed my KYB AGX shocks and struts tonight.

I also paid a visit to George at B&M back at Memorial weekend and installed a shift gate.

This is emmbarassing- My car sounds like a frikin Import fart can right now above 4K rpms. The catalytic convertor has been rattling so badly (at idle) and needed replacing, yet it is backoprdered till the end of the month.

So I temporarilty replaced it with a 4" round bullet straight through race muffler because it was really loud with no Catalytic convertor at all. I should have just left the rattling cat for now. It sounds like a Honda. I am praying that new cat comes in this week and I find time to get it into there one evening or I am going to catch alort of sh*t next weekend the way this car sounds right now. Its amazing the difference in noise. This car sounded best above 4K and now its reversed. I should have just straight piped it and lived with the excessive noise until the new one came.

George, you'll have to back me on this one, you've been in the car before and will agree it sounds terrible right now when you hear it. It isn't going to stop me from showing though, I am a man of my word. Its just frikin embarassing.

Bad news for me

As of tonight it seems that making it out there next sunday will be a real problem. I am still struggling with getting the correct peddle ratio for the clutch in the car. (It is far from stock). I'll be working on it as much as I can this week between work and home
duties. May end up pulling the clutch again and sending back to Mcleod for a third time for more tuning

I can vouch Rons efforts. I have seen the linkage myself and have stopped by a few times to lend a hand. A bit of trial and error in trying to get it to fit his application and he is making every effort to get it done in time. The custom stuff is never fun when on a schedule.

I had my own share of headaches this week that cost me probably a total of 3 days wasted time between them all. ran out of time to even try and mess with the brake lines and propvalve.
Now tonight my powersteering pump is making noise. Wife says she has heard that noise now for about 2 weeks and I notice a few drips on the garage floor where it parks. I will be there, but what more crap can add to my stress this week- my customer has aready upgraded the 5 1/2 day job to 7 days this week and I have only 6 to finish so I will be having some late days.

This is the sh*t why I stopped racing years back- just wasn't fun anymore.

If I go, I'm just going to mess around. I have a few simple things I need to do to the car before I run up there otherwise they'll probably tell me I cant run the thing The brakes suck though, I was playing around with it and sometimes the pedal is hard and it doesnt brake well, so... not going to be very fast if I am fighting the brakes.

I'll try to be there with or without the car. Not pleased myself about the way things turned out. I just want my ride to be as close to right on as I can make it before Its raced . I'm tired of pushing the car back on a trailor rather than driving it on.

I'm tempted to trailer the GTA. I almost reserved a car trailer with UHaul a couple weeks ago. I might still do it this week.

Just not sure if I want to spend the $$$ on the trailer.

I can bring extra goodies in the truck, plus it has the generator capability. I can bring my portable compressor in case anyone wants to air-up tires ...etc.

My wife picked up a power steering pulley remover/installer kit today for me so I can get the other power steering pump onto the car Friday night or Saturday. The rest of my exhaust parts still on backorder so the car will be there sounding like a fart can.

*edit*
RTFC- Running The Fart Can

No It actually stands for "Rookie The F*ckin Cookie" Its a nickname I have had for years. It was givin to me the day I met Andy Granitelli and drove one of his Formula Fords a Willows. One of my best friends has known him for about 30 years. He lives in Barry Spintzers old house- Anyone remember Barry from ZZZZ-Best carpet cleaning? He was the kid indited for laundering money for the mob. Its my Jewish-Italian mob name.- Hell, I'm not even either. All these guys know eachother though, George Barris, Vinnie from UltraLimo's, Louie-vertical doors, Michael- the guy sleeping with my wife, Andy Granitelli-STP fame

Hey George can you bring the wideband with you? I'll be taking his Tahoe so we can put the RA1's on at the track.

Thanks,
James

Well I wanted to bring my '05 Maxima. But mike was afraid Dean would get mad and smash my windows or something when I won. So I decided to bring Mike's Tahoe and help Mike setup his stuff. We should have a tent, chairs, and some refreshments available so stop by...Dean to. It should be pretty fun and interesting. I guess we'll try and setup by George and jenabella if that's possible. I wonder if Mike will run a better time than GPL too?

The word on he street is that Dean has installed some headers and that his new exhaust issue is an aid to gain some power from the V6 (not really). I've driven Mike's 300K mile 5.0 TBI. It's is a torqueless wonder...he literally has the power of a 4-cylinder and the weight and mileage of a V8. Hell, I ate up his camaro in my 3500 lbs. japanese luxo-cruiser with a V6.

I'm not completley out as of yet. I have taken the next 2 days off to see If I can jury rig the clutch for 1 event then R&R it for more work next week. I'll talk to McLeod tomorrow and see what they say about running it as is or wait. I REALLY wanted to have this done for this event. I am not happy at all

Do you have me labeled wrong- I do not have a temper and fly off the handle. Matter of fact, I never raise my voice in life.

Joking or not, I want you to know I am a hard working class individual that has the utmost respect for other peoples property and would kindly appreciate you please delete such direct insinuations.

Yes I do have headers on the car. They did nothing on this little motor but made it louder. Displacement is so small that the stock manifolds did just as well. This car is embarassingly slow in a drag race, I don't want to hear the crap about your little maxima V6, It would spank this car and you know it. I did not just fall of the turnip truck.

Yeah, I can bring you the wideband! I think I can take Mike. I have way more power, that is what truely matters here, right? It's not like driving skills in the twisties matter much.

Yeah this little VQ motor is pretty good.

I think it will be a pretty fair race between you and mike because you have similar basic suspension mods (springs/shocks/struts/LCA/A_arms/etc.) but have differnt masses you are pushing and being a v8 he no doubt has more torque (not that much more) and probably about the same peak HP (seriously his car is S-L-O-W).

GPL on the other hand is the wild card. He has the most power no doubt but probably the least suspension mods quality wise unless he has put on aftermarket shocks or something.

No suspension mods yet. I need to though, my shocks are bad and I think my springs are creeking (what do you expect from a factory equipped 130K+ mile 2001 vehicle ). Time for new springs and shocks, which will not be on by AutoX.

Gee wiz guys…it looks like I’m gonna get passed around like a pack of cigarettes…I guess my days of aspiring to be a professional driver will soon be over. Not to worry though…I’ve already sent my headshots to Barbizon and I’m well on my way to being a sensual sleep wear model.

I’m tuned, heat cycled, shaved, and walking around with a hard on packing a dose that will make you wish you were born a woman. BITFO!!!!!

I'll velieve it when I see it that your car is S-L-O-W Mr Perez. I am really hoping I am right and you are hiding something so we truely have a race. You're gonna need whatever power you have musturd to at least yeild a close second otherwise I am going to slaughter you by at least 4 seconds out there. Your enlightenment is coming.

GPL is not my focus either, my personal comp is Glen for comparison. Glen's car is my competition being a V8, race tires and racing alignment. I am looking to close the 2 second flat gap he had on me the other time I took this car to the track just over two years ago. So unless you have run even remotely close to his times, then you might as well put your tail between your legs now.

I like to throw out my smack talk in the 11th hour when it means something. Down to the wire baby- better go out and practice every remaining night, you'll need it. Got those butterflies in the tummy don't ya?
