Black GTA wheels at Pick Your Part...

In case anyone's interested in 3/4 of a nice set of black GTA wheels, they're at the PYP(Pick Your Parts) in Sun Valley at the corner of Glenoaks and Pendleton, not to be confused with the UPP(U Pick Parts/Aadlen Brothers) on Penrose.

I was there today, and I found a red '87 GTA with two excellent rear rims, and one excellent front. The other front rim is damaged(but not too badly, fixable, I'd think). All the rims were nicely polished too. Two good rims are next to the car, one good one is on the rear, and the damaged rim is inside the car.

I was there until closing time this evening(6:00pm), so I know they're still there. So if anyone's interested in an early-thursday morning trip to the PYP, they should be there waiting.

The car is near the back of the GM section and was obviously freshly deposted because the entire drivetrain was intact too(305 TPI/auto/drum brake rearend--discs weren't available on the '87 GTA with the LB9/auto combo, according to my '87 literature), the deluxe door panels were there(in decent shape), and so were all the WS6 suspension components.

I'd have grabbed them for myself, but I'm not in the market for wheels, and I'm even less interested in selling stuff, lol. So there ya go... here's to hoping someone here gets them.

Oooh. I need some rims to eventually put slicks on! What do you think the PYP would want for the rims. Or would it be cheaper to order some stock firebird rims online? I'd be spending about $20 just driving out to Sun Valley.

The cashier I asked said $30/each. But if you've been to many yards, you know that different people will quote different prices. But that's in the ballpark with most yards for aluminum wheels.

The three good rims are much nicer than you'd expect and as perfect as they can be for being used. They're very nice!

Are you sure you don't work for the parts yard?

Since I can't make it to any events this weekend... I just might go tomorrow and see.

Sun Valley is in the north San Fernando Valley, and the yard is near the 5, just south of the 170 interchange.

Exit the 5 at Penrose, make a right off the ramp and go to Glenoaks, make a left on Glenoaks and go to Pendleton, make a left on Pendleton, yard is on the corner so turn right into its parking lot. It's $2 to enter.

Also right off that same exit, not to make things confusing, is the other yard, U Pick Parts/Aadlen Brothers... but you'd make a left off the Penrose exit ramp. It's also $2 to enter.

The two yards are minutes apart, and both are large and worth visiting. Take a lunch pail and make a day of it.

lol, no I don't. But when I see parts that are nice enough that I'd buy for myself if I needed or wanted them, I want to let other thirdgenners know about them so those parts have a chance to get a good home. And these wheels are nice.

If I were in the market for wheels, I'd have definitely grabbed them. Even though one is bad, it would be worth it to look into repairing it or buying one new one, IMO.

following-up...

I went back today for a look around, and the GTA wheels were gone. I checked the bins where they pile up wheels, and they weren't there either. Hope someone here got 'em.

Then I dropped into the other yard(U Pick Parts/Aadlen Bros. on Penrose), and they were setting a new row of cars(in the back of the GM section). One was a white 1992 Firebird with a V8(TBI), 5-speed, and a good dash pad.

I don't expect anyone's interested in the TBI, but the 5-speed...

And I found another 350--what was left of one. It was in a black-primered '87 Z(engine code 8). The TPI intake was gone(fuel rails laying there), and one head was missing, revealing that it's definitely a 350. Other than that, the block was intact. So there's that if anyone wants a block to work with. It's definitely a fixer-upper.
