Vertical Doors

What's everyone opinon on this- I'm open for criticism. Personally, I kindof feel it may look cheezy, but I have a lifelong friend that owns the company (I went to jr High school with him and were best friend back then- 26 yrs ago). He of course would hook me up but I am not so certain I would like it.

I was just pondering though what a pain in the *** these large doors are to open and get out of the car in such tight parking spaces now days. It would be more convenient, but again, I think it would be kind of cheezy looking for a 3rdgen? Imput? I am going by to see him tomorrow night about something else and he mentioned this about possibly building a kit for my Camaro. He's done several of Shaq's car already.

If that chick in the picture comes with it, $hit yea

I was thinking the same thing, in tight parking spaces, it would be nice. I think it would be cool. Maybe a tad 80's, but original nonetheless.

Dean, I agree with the cheesy aspect, now of course if you were building a show car then that would be awesome to get the hook up and have it look different. I do like what I read quickly on the site about it pretty much being a bolt-on. I would have to see the outcome on a 3rd gen to give a true evaluation however if you are interested and you are getting a great deal then I would go for it, after all if there are no modifications made to the car you could always switch it back

Nuff said right there, IMHO. Have you seen Shaq's cars? Bling-bling-bling, Superman logos everywhere – in other words tacky-tacky-tacky.

Galpin Ford can set you up with a P-Diddy interior – all black with purple ostrich trim, wet bar ...etc.

But like Ken said, it's worth looking into just to meet the girl in the photo!

They don't even list the 3rd gen f-bodies on the application guide.

Unless he can do some custom work for you.

Our doors are pretty heavy, that would have to be one strong hinge to hold that door up.

[edit] Nevermind, I saw they have a universal kit[/edit]

Louis and I took the kids Karting last night then he came back to the house for a chat. I am going to try and make it by his shop one day next week to check out whats involved and possibly even do the fab work myself in his shop in Corona if I like what I see. Besides, he owes me for lighting up the supercharged Hummers tires at about 40mph down my residential street. It was at a roll doing 40 when they broke loose!

P.S. we are teneitively planning on hitting Adams karting track next Wednesday night. Anyone else game?

PSS. Spohn just e-mailed me tonight with some proto-type poictures of something we talked about a while back. So that maybe in the works real soon gettin installed my car also. But mums the word until he decides to release it.

Good luck with door project if you decide to accept it Dean!

I would definitely be interested in the process and how it all looks when it's finished, with the stance of your Camaro I would say that the end product would look great!

Too late Dean, another 3rd gen beat you to the vertical doors. I was driving home thru Long Beach today and saw a clean red T/A, about 87-90 style, sitting in a Shell station on PCH. Very unique and definitely gets your attention.

Well, Louie and I went out to Adam's kart track last night. What a blast. That place is definately fun and could even be a little dangerous through the chicane at full speed with traffic @ 50mph+. I bet the dam kart would flip if I highsided a bumper just right at that speed- pretty good thrill.

As for the doors, He said he definately wants to build a kit for the 3rd gens (he holds the patent on the hinges and has exclusive rights to the design) and is willing to use my car as a prototype for "free" withing about 3 months (he's doing at least a c5 or a limo per day right now, very busy) when he slows a bit. I even offered to pay for materials and he's fighting me on that (he was my best friend in 7th and 8th grade).

Anyways, long and shrt of it is the wife says no way in hell does she want that on her car. I explain that the doors still will open normal 1/2 way out so you can actually get into the car without lifting them- she still says no- it would be embarassing looking and that she likes to open the doors all the way to get in and not squeeze through the 1/2 open stop on the factory hinge setting.

So with that, I go and and try the current doors with the 1/2 open stop and it is adequate entry (granted, all the way open is best if availiavle via parking spaces). Now in looking at the door at halfway stop and then lifting upward vertically, I realize that I would have a more incumbersome entry with the door angle upward towards my face and shoulder making entry than I would with only the halfway open factory stop at level open. These doors are in fact too long and would make it a pain in the "face" to make entry, it would not benefit in a tight parking spot.

I have to say, I agree with the wife, but not for her reason. I kindof think it would be cool to have the option of them opening vertically since they open normal half way. but only if it would benefit entry and it looks to do more harm than good.

I will decline his gracious offer.
