I've never seen a smog tech look under a car.

legally, it has to be after the cat.

after that though, almost anything goes as long as it has reasonable sound supression...

Then I might be screwed with the IROC's exhaust

P.S. they have always looked under my IROC since I got the motor finished

What the hell you need a cut out for on a 14 to 13 second car for anyways. You are not going to go any faster by making all that unnecessary noise. Don't even waste your time and money on that project. Only ricers do that and look how fast they are going 15 to 16 seconds.

Well I'm getting one so that I can have an open y pipe when I want it, and when I want to be quiet, I can be that too. Not to mention that my TA is called 'Budget TA' for a reason lol. Cheaper than a good exhaust to just get a cutout.

You should be fine if you mount it behind the cat, because then all you're doing is changing the noise levels, not the emissions levels. Just don't rev at a cop with it open.

It is not necessary for a cut out because our fuel injection engine likes a little back pressure. If you are running big horse power then a full open exhaust. It looks embarassing running 13's or 12's making up a bunch of noise. Myself and a few others are running 12's through the mufflers.

If it don't make horse power it don't make sense

Just run dual cats and there you go. Cool sound an all

Backpressure kills horsepower. The only engines that "like" backpressure are 2-strokes.

Right the cut out is just non sense. You will make so much noise going down the road or track. No sense for any more. However if you want that kind of cut out it might be cool for track purposes.. But Im sure there are other area's you can still gain hp..

I myself am thinking of having my exhaust made like Kevin's since we pretty much almost have the same exhaust any ways. But Id like to add in the bullet muffler. And do that trick Bend Don does over the rear.. That is probably crucial there to have a nice flow mandrel bend over the 3". And also I like that the exhaust is nicely able to all unbolt. So if you want to really make some noise saves some weight. Run it where legal. if the car likes it.. But each to there own..

well i was just gaining info for the future so i dont go off and buy one not knowing the laws..

the use would be only for off road and scaring old ladies, the damn kids next door, and waking up the dead at 1am.

i need to replace my cat because its basically gone, so i think i might have Don work some magic and make a dual cat like all the cool people.

wait is a dual 3" cat system even doable? my Y pipe is 3" and the rest of the exhaust is the mandrel bent 3". i guess i would have to change the Y pipe situation then. eh, either way.

my objective is to be faster than Vincent

That's O.K I'll have that advantage just like Kevin Does with that 3 1/2 Mandrel bend going over the rear. You guy will open that cut out and gain nothing on normal street use. Learn this. It's proven. Kevin has not taken his car out on the track yet, and maybe not even fully tuned. But when I rode with him on a tune run. This thing was pulling me back in the sit and sideways and I felt the force likes the exhaust was just flowing.
You want to be loud unbolt that sucker. Less weight. And it's going to give the flow all the way around. And if you have the advantage of 1 3/4 headers, you might as well use it.

Listen to the story's Don tells. Even about Converters in both area's. There is always a gain.

Vincent's car may sound nice. But you have to admit. That's Cam.

I got my cutout because I wanted the option to have the Flowmaster sound...and then the Raw Nascar sound...especially by just flipping a switch (McCord Power Plate). Unlike alot of guys...I could careless if it made any power or not. I agree for the guys that want to race..and that's all...but..if you just want a cutout so you can make it as loud as possible...then go for it...but for race reasons...I probably wouldn't go with one. Just stick with a full length 3 inch exhaust My car is just for show...and once in awhile, I drive it....but that's it.

I just bought it because it would give me the flow I want and be cheaper than a cat-back...

In my opinion I love having cut-outs. Like 84 Custom said I love having a quiet exhaust and then flipping a switch and having a loud throty sound. In my car even gain around 15 rwhp with it open. And I have changed my whole exhaust. I have to smog my car in a bit so I will tell you if I pass or not.
Peace Out,

Yeah, see, from the cutout back it's all stock exhaust minus the cat that was removed. So my gains should be pretty big...
