NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway Event?
Who is interested in having an event at the Silicon Speedway at City Walk in Universal City? This is a NASCAR simulation where you sit in a replica NASCAR race car with working steering wheel, gas, brake, clutch, etc, and drive around real NASCAR tracks.

We can rent the place out for an hour or so, or just show up one night and pay per race. If we rent the place we'd want a minimum of 24 people to keep costs down. I have an email in with the event coordinator now, but I had a quick talk with the manager Sunday night. He said Sunday mornings are the best deal, with an hour being about $500-1000. $500 divided by 24 people is just over $20. However, Universal charges $8 for parking, so meeting somewhere and carpooling would be the best idea.
Reply to this thread if you are interested. I wont even set it up unless we get 15 confirmed people. I think a Sunday in July would be the best bet, or maybe the last Sunday in June?

5 people isnt going to be enough... I got the quote today, it will be $800 based on 24 people. If we cant get 24 people, we will have to invite the SCFB and LS1.com and other f-body owners. What do we say people? The days they have available are Sunday June 30th or Sunday July 21st, both at 10 am.

Well, I guess this event isnt getting enough response... I need someone to put up a $400 refundable deposit, that will be paid back by SMS the day of the event. I dont have a credit card or I would do it. But we've barely got 6 people. If I dont get more in the next two days I'll have to cancel.

Do we want a car cruise and lunch afterwards? What does it take to get more people involved? Is the cost too high or do you guys not like these type of events?

Good question ... On all the boards (and SCFB) I've been to, everyone always talks about getting together, yet when someone actually plans it (like in this case, a couple of weeks in advance), no one says yes. I think the majority like the cheap events, you know ... no money involved. Take for example the previous events I went to, only four or five of us (GS3, SC3G, etc.)

Well
Most people need more than even a 2 week notice due to their bills etc. for instance if I started a work week an I don't get paid for 2 weeks, an after a few days there is a event or etc that cost money, more likely the persons extra cash has already been spent before they even get paid =/ even though they already worked for the money of the hours they have coming, most of the time it is ruff pay check to pay check an especially if they don't have a 40 hour plus job a week. Then considering the cost of living down here. Myself I am going to move out of Orange County for a short time. I am planing on furthering my education an it just don't seem like it is going to plan out down here. Rent is to High an a lot of jobs out here don't even provide full time for the circumstances an reasons.

This has been planned for MONTHS in advance, not weeks. So you could have been able to save up for it. Kind of like saving up for the SuperRam you just got, or other mods. We (or at least I) don't like when people say we should get together, yet when the opportunity arises, they are the first to back out or say they can't. Not saying this is you Branden.

Oh I see
hehe j/k well I did not know this was planned months back, but I guess if it was a little earlier in time' I would have been able to read correct =) I do understand what you are saying, I just figured money is probably the biggest issue, but all an all 20 bucks. You can only go to like Dromo1 for 20 bucks for a half hour. I very much appreciate Kevin getting the idea b/c it is something different an seems like fun, an also considering I never been there myself. hehe I bought the Super Ram a long time ago =) you must have missed that meeting, but im not cracking on ya GPL, I would like to go but I got so many things going on I could not make the promise.
